SIMON WORSTER, OF SAYRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
BRICK FOR BUILDING SIDINGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented July 24, 1906.
To alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMON WORSTER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sayre, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bricks for Building Sidings, of which the following is a specimove this drawback, I use special bricks,
vided with longitudinal flangelsgff,
which form the subject of the present application.
My invention will be better understood from the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference-letters denote corresponding parts, and in which Figure 1 shows an elevation of a siding formed of my bricks; Fig. 2, a vertical section through line m a of Fig. 1, and Figs. 3v
and 4 erspective views of my bricks.
Wit reference to the drawings, a 6 denote two individual bricks. These bricks, the composition of which is fine cinder, cement, lime, sand, and plaster-of-paris, are made at their front flaring. This composition is made subject of a separate a plication. The bricks a are provided with lateral flanges c, which preferably have rounded edges (1, and the bricks b with corresponding lateral recesses e, the width of which corresponds with that of the flanges c. The flanges c of the bricks a are ada ted to engage the recesses e of the bricks b w en the bricks are placed alternatively at the side of and cemented to each other. The bricks a and b are also proprojectinlg1 downward at their front s aces, w 'c flanges are adapted to overlap the bricks below when laced one on top of the other, as shown in igs. 1 and 2.
The bricks a, having the lateral flanges c,
are provided with bores h to receive screwbolts 9 for their attachment to the sheeting z' and corner-stud l. The bricks b will be securely held in position by the overlapping flanges c of the bricks a. The bores h may be widened at their front, as at k, to allow an easy handling of the screw-bolts.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A siding for wooden buildings comprising two sets of bricks adapted to be alternatively set alongside and vertically on the top of each other, said bricks having flaring front surfaces, the bricks of one set having lateral flanges projecting from the front surface thereof, and the bricks of the other set having corresponding excavations at the side edges of the front surface, the said flanges being adapted to engage the said excavations, both sets of bricks having downwardly-ere tending flanges adapted to engage the bricks or any parts below, substantially and for the purpose as specified.
2. A siding for wooden buildings, comprising two sets of bricks adapted to be alternatively set alongside and vertically on the top of each other, said bricks having flaring front surfaces, the bricks of one set having lateral flanges projecting from the front surface thereof, and thebricks of the other set having corresponding excavations at the side edges of t e front surface, the said flanges being adapted to en a e the said excavations, both sets of bricks aving downwardlyextending flanges adapted to enga e the bricks or any parts below, transversa bores in the flanged bricks, screw-bolts fitting in said bores for the attachment of the bricksto the parts inside of the building, substantially and for the purpose as specified.
Signed at Sayre, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, this 8th day of April, A. D. 1905.
