Description

ELIE A. rAsRoN, F CHICAGO. Intieme, Assi GNOR OF ON i-HALF T() ERNEST BELL, 0F GLENEIEGE, 'NEW JERSEY. secvmefeusu.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented July 10, 1906.
application illod December 18.19135. Serial No. 292,191.
To @ZZ whom it may concern: f Y
. Beit known that I, EME A. FARRON, a citien of the United States, residing at Chicago, in vthe countyro Cook and StateY of Iliinois, have inventedj certain new and useful Improvements in Shavin -Brushes, of which .thefollowingis a. speci cation. 'Y
The accompanying drswingfise longitudina central section of a shavingebrush ernbodying the principles of myinvention.
"In seid drawing,nA indicates the bristle portion of the brush, and B denotes the hendle of the seme. The handle is made'hollow lto contain a. flexible tube C of liquid soep and to provides duct for receiving' liquid soap from the Vierible sup ly-tube and for discherginthe'same into t e bristle portion' of the brus The handle of thebmsh comprises e hollow elastic gol-tion 1, preferably mede of vulcanized ru ber, and 4adopted to receive a flexible tube C, containing liquid soap. This elastic hendie portionV 1 is suitably provided or connected with e socket portion 2, adapte "of bristles, theY socket being sixitebie wey-for example, shown, the flexible handle tached to o screw collar-o1"couplitg this couplin 'is removably cou le screw-three. 4ed end portion of th whereby when the soep in the tube is ex- -hcused the handle portion 1- and 'coii' er 4, and
Y moved and a. full tube su tituted therefor. The contrer.Y hol tube; is, rexternali v threaded* and imA screw into en internally-t -tion of a short-tube 6, arranged to form a discharge-duct extend Y from' the bore' Vor cheinber?, in whicht e (lis conined. .-lhe'tube vdiasineter then the diameter of the chamber 7, proviced or nitrite pppexl'lend with e ann or lap ogm-8 eving the inner wail the socket 'e tube Yeis else preembly ciosed at its lower end. and provided 'at points above such end closure wit llitters] discha 9 :forthepassege of litiid soap from'the cliscmse-duct into the n'stle portion of the b it being observed that the ported end4 ed to receive snelheid -oneend of the bunch preferably rigidY and the bristies being held therein 1n eng by cement portion 1 Yissn;-Y
Wiith' a" e socket 2, coupling 4 can vbe removed from thesoekct 2,' so as to permlt'the em ty tube to be vre-V dueolicrge end; 5, of the sca'pf dedend por-- itsv rge-ports lEglise es to open or close .its ports, the -iiange For the breeder pinched portion of the tube 6 extends into the bristle 5 5 portion of the brush below the cemented portion thereof.
The brush is also provided with a valve device for closin the discharge-ports 9. The valve' device s own consists of a tube 10, provided with an upper fiar' end portion or 'yheviu its outer??? the irfwaiiro't Ve Socket 2. The tube 56 is fitted to turn VWithin the tube I0, and the upper beeriog portion 8 of the tube 6 is fitted t'o scat and turn u on the Haring portion l1 of the tube 1U. ilhe tube 10 is provided with porton, correspondin with ports 9 `oi theY inner ducttube 6, so t at bg turnii the Vletter the ports 9 and 12 can e plee I in or out of re ster, as maybe desired. The
' ilange'or'diep egm 8 and the tube 6 tum ass whole u' n the bearm" gs provided by the outer tule l0 and the iis. e or da phregn' il' and the tube ll'is so preferably e" "at its lower terminel Jn correspondences'iith the closure of the lower terii of tube 6. Inorder to turn the tube c'lcipbmgm 8 has a part of its mer 'nal portion rovided with a rack 13, whic is enge ed 'ya pinion 14 on e. spindlei. The
extends through esuitebie bearingitli which socket 2 is'- provided and has on its outer end a milled head `16. The body poitiono -tube C, which tewithin the elastic handle portien l, is mede' of tin-foil or like material, such exs-is commonly used for paint-tubes. By graspvand squeezing-the elastic handle portion i t 'e tube Geen be squeezed suiciently to cause ejsuitabl'e 'uentity of liquid soa to be jectedironi'sugh tube into the disc argeuct and thence into the bristle portion of the brush Wherithe dischargegports are open. -ai f mynvention the hollow handle comprises the socket ertion 2, as well sinv up er elastic portion. -While the tube'Gis exi le, it is preferably noneeiestic. B protein -the elestic hendie` portion 1 ietere y inwcr -the tube C wiilbe or compressed; but upon Areleosin pe on the elastic handle portion 1 snc elastic handle portion' will spring out to its` normal sha, p A
VWhat oliiim as m invention is l. A shoving-bras comprising a hollow handle having en elastic portion which can. A
ge secured to i I be ressed laterally inward, a bristle ortion,
a exible tube removably7 -held Wit 'n the hollow handle and containm liquid soap and having one end open for discharge, and a duct arranged to recelve liquid soap ejected from the flexible tube and to discharge the same into the bristle portion of the brush ,the flexible tube'being compressed to eject the liquid soap by laterally-inward pressure against the elastic handle portion.
2. A shaving-brush comprising a hollow handle havingan elastic ortion which can be ressed laterally-inwar a bristle portion, a flexible nonelastic tube adapted to contain li uid soap and removably held within the ho ow handle-and having one end open for discharge, and a duct arranged to receive Vliquid soa discharged from the flexible nonelastic tu e and to discharge the same into the bristle portion of the brush, the flexible tube vbeing compressed to eject the liquid soap b laterally-inward pressure against the elastic andle portion. 3. In a shaving-brush, a hollow handle havin an-elastic portionwhich canbe ressed latera lyinward ;a bristle portion; a exible J tube removably held within the hollow handle and conta liquid soa and havin Vone end open for iiischarge a guet arranged to receive li uid soa ejected from the flexii ble tube an to disc arge the same into the bristle portionof the brush, the flexible tube being removably connected at its open end with the saidduct; and a valve for controlling the discharge of liquid soapinto thev bristle portion of the brush; the flexible tube being compressed by laterally-inward pressure against the elastic portion of the handle.
lporte can e pressed laterally inward for the pur-V pose set forth.-V
5 A shaving-brush constructed with a hollow elastic handle ortion, a socket portion with which the hollbw elastic ortion is detachably connected, a ported 1scharge-tube arran ed within the socket ortion and sup to turn axiall said) tube being extended into the bristlg portion, a stationary ported tube within which the said dischargetube is tted to turn, and means for turnlng.
the dischargeptube;
6. A shavin -brush constructed with a hollow elastic ruber handle portion l, a socket portion 2, a bristle portion, and a dischargetube arranged to .discharge within the bristle portion an having an upper receiving end portion internally threaded and' ada ted to receive the threaded end 5 of a tube introduced withinthe hollow handle.
7. A shaving-brush comprising a hollow handle havin anrupper elastic rubber ortion 1, and a ower socket portion 2, a bristle portionheld by the-socket portion, a partition arranged between the bristle portion and the upper rubber portion 1, and having a central discharge-tube extending. down within the bristle ortion, and a valve device for opening and c osi'ng the dischar e-tube.
