HARRY M. ACLY, OF PITTSFIEL, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSlGblOB TG STAN il' ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PlTES- FIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATIONr OF NEW JE tSEL INSULATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Eatented June 19, i908,
Application Eleni November 12, 1904. Serial No. 232.464.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY M. ACLY, a citizen of the United States, residinry at Pittsfield, county of Berkshire, State of Massachusetts,
have invented certainnew and useful lm.
,which is simple, strong, and compact, which may be quickly applied and removed, and
v which is adapted to receive conductors of different sizes.
My invention will best be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows a side elevation oi an insulator arranged in accordance with my invention; and Fig. 2 shows an end elevation of the saine.v
in the drawings, A represents a suitable support adapted to receive the weight of the conductors, and which l have shown as a section of pipe or metal tubing.
B re resents a U-shaped bolt, with its base twiste to form a loop-in a plane at an angle to the lane of the U, this loop being of a size to tit c osely aroundthe pipe A, which hes in the plane oi the U. i
D represents an insulating-block, of porcelain or other suitable material, which is provided on its lower surface with a V-shaped groove adapted to engage the pipe A and is provided on its sides with grooves adapted to engage the legs ofthe U-shaped bolt. When the bolt is placed in position around the pipe and the block D is slipped over the bolt into the position shown, the block and bolt lock each other in osition ready to receive the conductor. T e block D is provided on its upper surface with a oove at right angles to t at on its lower su ace, adapted to receive the bus-bar or other conductor C.
E represents a second porcelain block or cap, also provided with lateral ffrooves adapted to be engaged by the ends ci? the U-shaped bolt and having on its lower surface a V- shaped oove adapted to engage the conductor l) represent nuts carried on the extremities oi the U-shaped bolt, by means of which the clamp E may be clamped in position.
By tightening these nuts the conductor C is firmly clamped between the insulating-blocks D and E.
What i'claini as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent or" the United States, is
1. In an insulator, a U-shaped bolt having 6o its base bent out of the plane of the U to enn gage a suplport lying in the plane of the U, two detac able insu ating-blocks having lateral grooves adapted to be enga 'ed by the legs of said U-shaped bolt, an means at the ends of said bolt.
2. In an insulator, a U-shaped bolt lhaving its base bent to form a loop in a plane at an angle to the lane of the U, two detachable insulating-b oclrs havin@ lateral grooves 7o A adapted to be engaged by the legs ot said bolt, and clamping rueans at the ends of said bolt.
3. In an insulator, a U-shapcd bolt having. its base bent out of the plane of the U to engage a support, an insulating-block having 7 5 ateral rooves adapted to slide on the legs ot' said bo t and having a groove on its under surface ada ted to engage said support, a second ins ating-block also having lateral grooves, and clamping means at the ends of 8o said bolt engaging said second blc-ck.
4. lin an insulator, a U-shaped bolt having its base bent to form a loop in a plane at an angle to the plane oi the U, an insulatingblock provided with lateral Grooves adapted to be engaged by said bolt and having grooves on its lower and upper surfaces at right angles to each other adapted respectively to engagel a support and to receive a conductor, a second insulating-block having lateral grooves 9o and a groove on its lower surface adapted to engage the conductor, and clamping means at the ends of the bolt engaging said second block.
5. ln an insulator, a U-shaped bolt having 9 5 its base bent out oi the plane of the U to engage a support lying in the plane of the Ll, two detachable insulating-blocks having lateral grooves adapted to be engaged by the legs of said bolt and having il-shaped grooves roo on their adjacent surfaces, and clan'iping means at the end ot said bolt.
In witness whereof l have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of November, 1901i.
