Description

No. 817,978. PATENTED APR.17, 1906. A. E. LIGKMAN.

TOOTHPICK.

APPLICATION IILED NOV. 11, 1905.

INVENTOR.

ATTORNEY:

I a perspective view of t iih'iZCE srArns oFFion.

Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented April 17, 1906.,

Application filed November 11, 1905. Serial No. 236,799.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALBERT E. LioKMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful 1m rovements in Toothpicks, of which the fol owing is a specificatlon.

My invention relates to an, improvement in toothpicks the object of which is twofold, the first being to provide a toothpick inexpensive to manufacture; secondly, one made of a material that will have but little tendency to injure the enamel of the teeth, and also at the same time owing to the construction thereof a suitable space is provided thereon to be used for advertising purposes.

With the foregoing object in view my invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations which will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claIim.h d F1 nt eaccom anyin rawings, ure 1 is P he toothpick Fig. 2 is a modified-form view.

In Fi 1,A is the flat body part of the toothpic made of suitable material, but preferably of celluloid, being'dagger-pointed at 1, and the other end being semicircularl cut away at 2, so as to form the pointed hoo 3. A toothpick thus made is novel and useful, and owing to the fact that the body art A affords a space that can be utilized for advertising purposes and by reason of the advertising matter being printed thereon I renders it particularly;l attractive and valuable as an article of t 's class; but omitting this partlcular feature the toothpick as invented by me performs a usefulness superior to other toothpicks by reason of its being provided with the pointed hook 3, whereby one isenabled to remove whatever substance or obstruction that may have collected in or between the teeth on the inner sides and more suitably constructed so as to remove substances from the hollow or decayed crowns of the teeth which cannot be as easily removed by a straight-pointed pick.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a simple article has been provided, one that is inexpensive in manufacture, novel in structure, and desirable as to its particular usages, both as a toothpick and as an advertising medium. v

Slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the s irit and scope of'my invention, and hence, do not desire to limit myself to the exact construction as herein set forth; but

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

An article of manufacture, a toothpick made from a single iece of flat suitable material, one end of t e bod part bein cut away to form a semicircu ar pointed 00k substantially as described and for the purposes set forth. I

In testimony whereof I aflE'lx my signature in presence of two witnesses.

- ALBERT E. LIOKMAN.
