Description

UNITED snares PATENT enrich,
AUGUST NEIDHARDT, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
COMPOSITION OF MATTER FOR REMOVING OLD PAINT, VARNISH, 81 0.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 17, 1905. Serial No. 283,094.
Patented March 2'7, 1906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST NEIDHARDT, a citizen of the United States, residin at Albany, in the county of Albany and tate of New York, have invented a new and useful composition of matter to be used for the removal of old paint, varnish, &c., from wood or other material preparatory to the ap lication of new paint or'other wood-fini's h, of which the following is a specification.
' My composition consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportion stated, viz: cabinet-makers glue, seventy parts; tallow, ten parts; starch, twenty parts. The glue is dissolved by heatin the manner usual in preparing it for cabinet-makers use. The starch is mixed with cold water and then added to the hot glue and stirred thoroughly. The tallow is then added and the whole stirred until the ingredients are thoroughly mingled. As this mixture will be almost transparent, I add any dry coloring-matter to aid the user to ap ly it thoroughly to the surface from which the old paint or varnish is to be removed. If the old aint is dark, I use a light coloring-matter if light, a dark coloringmatter is used. This composition thus made will last almost indefinitely without spoiling, and in preparing it for use on old paint it is warme and reduced to the proper consistency by the addition of hot water and applied with a brush and allowed to dry.
By the use of the above composition a plied to a painted or varnished surface in t e manner described it will be found that such surface after a few hours will have the old paint or varnish so thoroughly loosened that it may be readily removed by the use of a stiff bristle brush or broom, leaving thewood perfectly clean and ready for the application of new paint or other wood-finish.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letname to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGUST NEIDHARDT. Witnesses:
CHARLES SELKIRK, CHARLES W. ZAHON.
