i exact description of shoulder of the wearer.
in the county of Benton, State of Arkansas,
have invented certain new and useful Im-v provements inMilking-Shields and I vdohereydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This1 invention relates to head-protectors. One object of the inventionisto provide a protector for use by those in the act of milking cows wherein the head of the milker will be rotected againstthe wagging of the anima s tail. l l Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a protector .of the nature v stated embodying such characteristics that it may be readily put on or' taken off by the wearer.`
A still further object is to provide a simspecineatioin of Lettersratent, Appuammeamgms,1905. serrare. 273,296. Y
ple, inexpensive, durable,` and eHicient pro-` tector or shield constructed and arranged for support'uponthe shoulder of the wearer for the accomplishment of the purposes stated.
With these and other objects in view the vpresent invention consists in the combination and 'arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter `more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and articularly pointed out in the appended c aims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacriiicing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure'l is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2'is a top planview. Fig: Sis a vertical longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detailview gli: one of the depending arms of the saddleock.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawings, the reference character 1 designates a saddle-block having its under face concaved, as at 2, whereby the saddle-block may be readily supported upon one the saddle-block 1 upon the shoulder of the In order to support wearer, which is preferably the left shoulder,
I form o positely-disposed grooves 3 and 4 ds ofthe saddle-block 1 near the inin the en lner face of the latter, in each of which I secure, by means ofany suitable fastenings 5, `the depending arms gand 7, eachof which is l provided with upper and'lower-'slots-S and-9 purpose presently explained. Secured .in the eyes 10, arranged at the opposite inner 'face of the saddle-head 1, are the straps 11 the strap 11, these wearer, there being stood that the JOHN w. HUGHES. for a and 12, the-strap 12 being provided with a buckle 13 for the reception of the free end of `and theneck'of the wearer of the protector. It will thus be understood that the straps 11 and 12 are buckled together about the neck ofthe wearer. Secured in alining slots 9 of the aforesaid depending arms 6 and 7 are the strap connections 14 and 15, the strap 15 hlving a buckle 16 to provide for an adjusta e which are designed to be secured around the waist of the wearer of the protector. A
l strap 17 has its ends secured in the upper alining slots 8 of the depending arms 6 and 7 for engagement against the left side of the an elastic strap 18 secured in the o positely-disposed eyes 19. uponthe outer face of the saddle-head `1 for engagement under the left arm to prevent the saddle blockl Acompressing against the neck of the wearer. e Y
Now inorder to insureprotection to the head and face of the wearer while milking a cow I provide a shield 20, whose lower longitudinal edge is fitted in the groove 21,.formed longitudinally in the upper face of the saddleblock 1 near the outer edge of the latter and which may be secured in said groove by means of suitable rivets 22 or in any other suitable manner.
The inconvenience occasioned by the wagging of the cows tail, especially in the summer-time, is a'well-kn'own inconvenience. It is also well known that the wagging of the animals tail frequently injures the head and face of the person milking the animal. My invention is designed to obviate 'such inconvenience and possible injury to the person milkingthe cow. It will be seen that the invention is ,exceedinglyv simple and inexpensive of manufacture, and it is to be underprotector is very light and that it may be readily 'attached and detached Y by the wearer.
What is claimed is- 1. `A head-protector comprising a saddleblock having a concaved under face for engagement upon the shoulder of the wearer, said block having a groove in its upper face,
