V o ARENoE E. ISACKE, OFNEW YORK, 4N. Y.'
= sHow DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 13, 1906.
7 Application filed December 27, 1904. Serial No. 238.484.
Be it known that I, CLARENCE E. ISACKE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Show Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates to a device intended to be constructed of paper or cardboard and to be used for advertising and display purposes, the object being to provide a simple, and therefore cheap, means of representing a box or package of merchandise to be advertised and for furnishing adjacent thereto or as a part thereof apard orv surface on which the advertising matter may be produced. I
attain this end bycertain peculiar formations, which will be fully set forth hereinafter, and particularlypointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, which illustrate as examples two forms of my invention, in which drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views, and in wh1ch Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form, showing it rest1n on a horizontal sup ort. Fig. 2 is a view 0 the blank from whic the device shown in Fig. 1 is constructed. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4
is a section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1, the dis-.
play device beinginverted and being here shown as hung from a pin or other support on a vertical wall or surface. Fig. 5 is a view showin the blank from which the second form 0 my invention is constructed. Fig.
6 is a cross-section of the second form of'the also with a tongue 01. stamped up from thecard. Integral with the card is a side flap b,
and integral with that is the front wall a of the box, which is joined to the side I) at one edge of the frame and which has at its three remaining edges flaps d, e, and f, the flaps d and e constituting the ends of the box and the flap f constituting the other side or that space in transportation.
opposite the'side b. The flaps d, e, and f have tongues d, e, and f projecting from their outer edges and formed-at their ends with slight cuts or slits d e andf as shown. This blank is intended to be stamped from an integral sheet of paper, cardboard, or the like and is to be shipped flat, so as to save In assembling the device to occupy the form shown in Figs. 1, 3, and 4 the side wall I) should be turned up to lie at right angles to the part a and the front wall cshould be turned up to lie parallel with said wall. The flaps d, e, and f should then be turned in toward the card a and the tongues d, e, and f, res ectively, entered through the slits a, a, an a After this is done the extreme ends of the tongues should be turned sidewise, the slits (1 c and f 2 per mitting this action, so as to lock the tongues into engagement with the card. This forms, therefore, a representation of a box, package, or other inclosure and an advertising-card projecting from the rear side thereof. In the practical employment of the invention I prefer to so print, paint, or otherwise treat the box portion that it represents exactly the package or merchandise being advertised, and then on the face of the card a I produce various devices advertising these goods. The display devices may be shipped flat with the goods, and the retailer can assemble the display devices in the manner described and place them in prominent positions to advertise the goods, the display devices being placed on atable, counter, or other horizontal support, as in Fig. 1, or hung from the wall, as in Fig. 4, in which latter position the tongue 0. serves as the support, it being bent upward from the card, as shown.
Figs. 5, 6, and 7 indicate the second form of the device, and, referring particularly to Fig. 5, g indicates the card. This is formed of paper or the like and has two parallel slits g therein. Integral-with said card is a side wall h of the box, and integral with this side wall is a front wall i. The front wall is joined to the side wall it along one edge of the front wall, and the other three edges of the rectangular wall will respectively carry flaps 7c, Z, and m, which are integral therewith. The flaps 7t and m have tabs 76 and m at their outer edges, and the flap Z has a rear wall n at its outer edge. This rear wall is provided with slits n and with a tongue n stamped therefrom. At its outer edge the rear wall has an integral flap 0, having a tab or lip 0 stam ed therefrom. In assembling this form of t e device the side walls It and Z are folded at right angles to the frontwall i, and the rear wall a is folded around to lie back of the front wall 11, the flap 0 being then passed through the slits g of the card g and the lip 0 engaged with the part of the flap between the slits, thus locking the parts 0 and 9 together, the card 9 being bent to extend out essentially in the plane of the rear wall n, as shown best in Fig. 6. Finally, the end walls It and m are bent down to lie horizontally, and the tongues 70' and mi are projected respectively through the slots n. This device presents also a representation of the box or package and the advertising-card, and it may he rested on'a horizontal support or hung through the medium of the tongue n It will be observed with respect to both forms of my invention that the box not only serves the novel purpose of representing a box of merchandise, but it also serves to sustain the card a or g in upright position, so that if matter is written or printed on the card it may be readily observed.
It will be observed that the device may be constructed with various boxes on a single card and in various sizes and shapes without departing from the principle of my invention.
Having thus described the preferred form of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A display device formed of an integral section of paper or other sheet material and having a card, walls forming a box at one edge of the card whereby said box may support the card in upright position, one of said walls being connected directly to the card, and means adapted removably to connect the other of said walls with the card, for the purpose specified.
2. A display device comprising a card, Walls adapted to form a box integral there- With, and one of said walls being connected directly to the card, and means for removably connecting the other of said walls with the card.
3. A display device formed ol'an integral sheet of paper or equivalent material and comprising a card and front end side and back walls ruling a box, one of said walls being connected directly to the card, and the other of said walls having tabs thereon adapted to engage openings in the card.
4. A display device formed of an integral section of sheet material and having a cardv walls forming a box of which walls one is directly connected to and contiguous with the card, and means for removably fastening another of'said walls adjacent to the base of the card.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
