TERRYLOOWE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1906.
Application filed March 27, 1905. Serial No. 252.314.
To all will/om it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE S. Ginrrrrn,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Glen Riddle, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Terry-Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to looms provided with a terry-motion similar to that shown in Letters Patent granted to J. and C. 'Rothwell, No. 257,517. In said patent the'locking device for suspending, atl intervals, the terry-motion is operated kby hand.' Since the grant of said patent several controlling mechanisms for operatingthe'locking device have been produced, which automatically put on and off the terry-motion. Heretofore the objection to such automatic control has been the expense of applying it to a terry-loom, genera ly re uiring a new loom mechanism.
Now the o ject of my invention is to provide a sim le and inexpensive mechanism adapted to e applied to a terry-loom ofthe i character named which will automatically .control theJocking-lever of the terry-motion to ut on oroff said motion at given intervals.
t is also my obj ect to provide in connec' tion with said automatic control ofthe locking-lever means for automatically operatingthe stop-rod to stop the loom at given intervals-as, for example, in `weaving Turkish toweling tostop theloom while or.V
forming fringe. y
In the accom anying drawings only\ such parts of a terryoom areshown as are necessary for those skilled in the art to understand the application and working of myinvention.
'Figure 1 is a fragmentary view giving portions of a Larry-loom frame with the usualsand-roller y ounted thereon and showing my invention ap lied. Fig. 2 is a front-end of one end of tige loom wlth my invention -appins detachably connected to said chain and disposed thereon in the manner usual to form a given pattern of Turkish toweling'.
`d denotes a pin detachably connected to n the side of one of the links 1n the patternmotion.
.chain and projects laterallyto one side of `the chainy and sprocket-wheel, as shown 1n Fig. 2.
E denotes a lever plvoted Ato the frame above. the sprocketfwheel, its lower end lying` in the path of the sprocket-chain pins d: The upper end of this lever is provided with an eye into which is fastened a chain F. F F
F denote pulleys attached to the frame, through which said chain passes, and is thereby led to a pawl, hereinafter mentioned ,which controls the putting on and'off of the terry- G denotes the lever for putting on and oii' the'terrymotion pivoted to a stud on'the ,loom-frame, as shown in Fig. 1 and provlded with an extension having a notch in its lower end. I-I denotes a pivoted pawl which controls the lever G by .engaging with said notch.,
hdenotes a coiled spring interposed in a cord or chain F2, attachedat one end, and to v,uplper end of pawl H at the other.
denotes a coiled spring interposed in the length of a cord or chain F, which extends from the pawl H to lever E.
K denotes a lever ke ed to the stop-rod L of the loom and dependss therefrom over and to one side of the sprocket-wheel and attemchair, its lowerend lying in the pat ofthe P111 f ing on and on the terry-motion will now be verG, which controls the action of the loom in weavin lain orterry fabric, is shown as disengaged fr the lever is in this position the terry-motion is "on and the loom is weaving terry fabric. At this time, as reference to Fig. 1 will show, the lower end of lever E lies in the ath of the pattern-chain pins. As the san -roller revolves in the direction shown b arrow said pins are brou ht to bear upon t e lower end of lever E an move it forward and upward, causing the upper end thereof to move in the o posite direction and ull/backward upon t e chain F. Thus thec ain led by the three ulleys to a point under the pawl H pulls it downward in the path -of the notch on the lemotion, as
well understood by those skille The pawl H is shown -in dotted lines asl engaging said notch, holdin lever G from further movement. In this ocked position of lever Gtheterry-motion is off and the loomis weaving plain fabric, such as the border of The. operation of the several parts lin throw'- described. In Fig. 1 of the drawings'the le-` om the pawl H, and so long as rio Turkish toweling. Said lever' G will remain in this position solong as the row of patternchain pins are passing under lever E, causin its u per end to pull on the chain F and hol aw H insaid notch. After the row of pins ave passed under lever E it resumes its normal position, (shown in Fig. 1,) Vand the ull` y uponchain Fbeing relaxed spring H simu taneously draws pawl Hback to its normal osition. The object of interposing sprin inable the attendant,in1case of anystoppa e in\ said automatic action,to immediately re ease such stoppage. The means for automatically stopping the loom is also operated by the motion of the sand-roller. -Upon completion of a towel the loom is automatically stopped by the pin d" coming in contact with the lower end of lever K and moving it sidewise. This lever being ri idly keyed to the stop-rod turns or rocks t e stop-rod, and thus stops the loom. This automatic stop age is `gaged to occur at the completion of t e towe connected to the u -s aid cham or just l after the border, which is plain woven, is formed, th object being to stop the loom while the operatorispullin or'formjng fringe. Having-thus descrlbed tIie invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a loomprovided with aterr motion, the combination with the leverwhic puts on and off the terry-motion, of an automatic shifting mechanism for operating said lever to throw.
on and off said motion, consisting of the sandroller, a sprocket wheel attached to said roller, a pattern f chain meshing with said wheely provided with projectin pivota ly suspended above sai c ain havin its lower end lnthe path of said pins, a chain er end of said suspended lever., a spriI.l.0-helP l and adapte to engage the notched end of said lever which puts on and H the terry-motion. v
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
