Description

PATENTED FEB. 13, 1906.
S. A. ALEXANDER. PARQUET FLOORING. APPLIOATIONPILED AUG MHz/2:555:
QQGM
UNITED STATES SIDNEY A. ALEXANDER, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
PARQUET-FLOQRING.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented Feb. 13, 1906.
Application filed August 10, 1905. Serial No. 273,654.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIDNEY A. ALEXAN- DER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Parquet- Flooring; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to flooring, and particularly to that type known as parquetry flooring.
An object of the invention is to produce a flooring comprising a series of sections and in combination therewith means for securing the sections against displacement.
Furthermore, an object of the invention is to produce novel devices desi 'ned to be secured to the under surfaces 0 the flooringsections, providing means for anchoring certain of the members, and for causing an interlocking connection of certain members with,
the anchored members.
Furthermore, an object of the invention is to provide securing members which can be readily disengaged from the anchorage and from the sections of the flooring to which they are attached.
Finally, an object of the invention is to produce a flooring comprising a series of sections and in combination therewith the securing devices, which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, proving at the same time comparatively inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the specification, where in like characters denote corresponding parts in both views, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the flooring constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the retaming-plates.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a series of sections of finished flooring of the type mentioned.
The anchoring means comprises a series of approximately L-shaped plates, though. the plates may be curved and yet accomplish the same result. The plates are secured to the under surfaces of the sections 1 at or near the corners, but at varying distances from the edges in order that the edges of the plates will engage when a series of the sections are assembled with one corner of one section con-v tiguous the corners of the other sections.
In attaching the plates to the sections the ends 4 of the plates are permitted to project on two sides of the sections, and said projecting ends are apertured to receive anchoring screws or nails 5.
As will be seen from the drawings, the plates are nested when a plurality of blocks are assembled with their edges in contact, and the projecting ends of the plate of one section underlie the edges of two abutting sections.
In building a floor one section is placed in position and the screws are applied to the projected ends of the plates of that section. The other section, with its plates projecting, is likewise anchored in place; but as the ends of the projections on one side must fit under the section that has already been anchored; it follows that the screws cannot be applied to the ends under the first-named sections, but the edges of the plates engage and prevent displacement of the sections in any direction.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a flooring, a series of sections, plates secured to the sections, each of said plates proj ecting from two sides of the section to which it is attached; each section overlying a plate of every abutting section and having similar plates similarly projecting and adapted to fit under the abutting sections of the flooring as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIDNEY A. ALEXANDER.
WVitnesses DAVID ROCHE, GAY ALEXANDER.
