A 5mm/nib@ UNIT E D ST A T' ES PATENT OFFICE.
MONUMENT.
Specification of'Letters Patent.
Patented, Feb. 13, 1906.
'lo r//ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRITZ GEORGE RANT- ZAL', a citlzen-of the United States, residing at Greatfalls, in the county of Cascade and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Monuments, of f which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to new and useful ilnprovements in monuments especially adapt- I ed for use in cemeteries; and its object is to j opened, when 1t will pass into the pipes 8 and' rovide a device of this character adapted to e used asa tank for containing water.
Another ob'ect is to employ pipes which extend, from t e base of the monument andbeneath the sod `on the grave or graves adjacent thereto, whereby water m desired quantities may be supplied to the grass.
- A further object is to em loy means Whereby the flow of water from tfie monument may be regulated.
With the above and other objects in view tne invention consists in the novel construction and combination of arts hereinafter more fully described and c aimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and
in which- Figure l is a central vertical section through the monument and the pipes extending therefrom, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view y.of the water-receptacle and pipes detached. o
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is anon-,corrosive metallic receptacle of desired shape and about which is molded a monument 2 ofcement orother similar material. The up er end of the vrece tacle is provided wit an aperture 3, nw `ch registers with an aperture 4, extending through the top of the monument. This aperture is normally closed by means of a plug 5, having an ornamental head 6, extending above the monument and serving as a captherefor.
The closed bottom 7 of the receptacle 1 preferably extends a short distance bel w the cement walls of the monument, and p pes 8 project laterally therefrom and are provided Application filed September 15,1902. Renewed December I8. 1905. Serial No. 292,269.
1 with perforations 9, whereby water may pass from the pipes and be absorbed by the surlrounding earth. A valve-10 is arranged in each pipe, undby means thereof the amount of water supplied to the pipes may be readily regulated. i It is believed that the operation of the device will be obvious from the foregoing description. The lug 5 is removed, the tank is then filled, and) the plug returned to its position. The water is retained in the receptacle until one or more of 4the valves 10 are g be absorbed by the earth surrounding them. l In the foregoing description I have shown j the. referred form of my mvention; but I do not imit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the i advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention,
secure byLetters Patent, is-
. 1. A monument, comprlsmg a non-corrofor the tank, and a valve ipe extendin laterally from the bottom of tiie tank and a apted to be embedded in the ground, that orf tion of `the pipe between its outer end an the valve being perforated.
2. The combination with a monument, consisting of a tank, Aand a coveringrmolded therearound and simulating stone, of a .plurality of parallel i es ,extending laterally from the bottom o tlile tank and adapted to be embedded in the ground, and a valve in each pipe, the tops o valves and the outer ends' perforations or outlets therein.
