To all whom it mar concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM K. MoCAR- DELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Mosquito-VetFrame Attachment for Bedsteads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to attachments to bedsteads for suspending mosquito-netting above and around the same, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and utility of devices of this character.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention ca pable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as Various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a perspective of the improved device applied and with the framework extended. Fig. 2 is a front elevation with the supporting-frame work folded or collapsed. Fig. 3 shows en larged perspective details of the swivel members detached. Fig. 4 is a transverse section, enlarged, of the clamp whereby the improved device is coupled to the bedstead members. Fig. 5 is a perspective detail, enlarged, of a portion of the mosquito-net canopy, illustrating its constructions more fully.
The improved device may be readily applied to any of the various forms of bedsteads manufactured, but for the purpose of illustration is shown applied to a bedstead of ordinary construction having the head portion 10, foot portion 11, and body portion 12, as shown in Fig. 1.
Clamped to the head portion at its opposite sides are vertical members 13 14, the clamping means consisting of curved plates 15 16, connected by clamp-bolts 17, the latter preferably supplied with wing-nuts 18 to facilitate the attachment and detachment and the adjustment of the vertical members relative to the bedstead.
Rotatively and slidably disposed upon the upper ends of the vertical members 13 14 are sleeves 19 20, provided with bayonet-joint slots, as shown at 21 in Fig. 3, operating over lateral pins 22 in the members 13 14, whereby the sleeves are permitted a certain degree of rotative movement, while at the same time prevented from vertical movement unless the vertical portion of the slots 21 are caused to register with the pins 22. The sleeves 19 are provided with transverse apertures through which rods 23 24 are rigidly supported and extend longitudinally of the bedstead and spaced above the sides of the body portion 12 when extended, as shown in Fig. 1, or foldable inwardly with their free ends against the members 19 20 when not in use, as shown in Fig. 2. The lengths of the horizontal portions of the slots 21 will preferably be just suflicient to cause the pins 22 to be disposed at one end of the slot portion when the rods are in distended position and.
at the other end when the rods are folded or collapsed. The vertical members 13 14 are coupled just below the sleeves 19 20 by a transversed member 25 to strengthen the structure.
Slidably disposed upon the rods 23 24 are rings 26 27, and movably coupled to the rings, as by short chains 28 29, is a stretcher-bar 30, extending transversely of the bedstead and beneath the rods and slidable relative to the same, the stretcher-bar also having a ring 31 depending centrally therefrom, while cords 32 33 are stretched between the vertical members 13 14 and the ends of stretcher member and connected thereto, respectively, as at 34 35 36 37.
Mounted upon the stay member 25 is a guidepulley 38, and connected at one end to an eyebolt 39 in the bar 30 is a cord 40, leading thence through the guide-pulley 38 and back again through the ring 31, while another cord 41 is connected to an eye 42 upon the bar 30. The free ends of the arms 23 24 are also coupled by a guy-cord 43, which passes loosely through the eye member 42, the guy-cord be ing longer than the direct distance between the members 23 24. By this arrangement the pulling upon the cord will draw the member 31 along the arms 23 24 toward the vertical members 13 14 until the slack of the guy member 43 is taken up, when the latter upper member 44, which may be of any suitable fabric or may be of mosquito-netting material, if preferred. The member 44 is provided with a suitable binding at the edge and with the mosquito-netting material, as at 45, depending therefrom, as shown, and inclosing the bedstead in the usual manner.
The netting material is divided at one side, as at 46, to facilitate the passage of occupants of the bed to and from the same. The upper member 44 of the canopy is provided at suitable intervals with fabric loops 47 for detachable connection to the cords 32 3,3, as shown, so that the canopy portion of the device may be readily attached and detached when required for washing or renewal or when not required.
The parts may be constructed to conform to the other portions of the bedstead and may be ornamented to any required extent, so that the same will not detract from the general appearance of the bedstead.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class described, spaced rods swinging from one end and extending longitudinally of a bedstead and above the same, a stretcher-bar slidable upon said rods, and provided with a central guide member, a guy-cord connected at the ends of said rods and slidable through said guy members, a mosquito-net canopy suspended from said bar, and means for moving said bar longitudinally of said rods to cause the same rods to be folded parallel to each other and transversely of said bedstead.

In a device of the class described, a supporting-frame having means for attachment to a bedstead, rods spaced apart and mounted to swing from said frame and extending longitudinally of a bedstead and above the same, a stretcher-bar slidable upon said rods and provided with a central guide member, a guy-cord connected at the ends to said rods and passing loosely through said guide member, a guide-pulley connected to said supporting-frame, a pull-cord connected to said stretcher-bar and leading through said guidepulley and thence through said guide mem-- ber and a pull cord connected to said stretcher-bar, and a mosquito-net canopy suspended from said bar.

In a device of the class described, a supporting-frame having means for attachment to a bedstead, rods spaced apart and mounted to swing from said frame and extending longitudinally of a bedstead and above the same, a stretcher-bar slidable upon said rods and provided with a central guide member, a guy-cord connected at the ends to said rods and passing loosely through said guide member suspension-cords extending between said supporting-frame and stretcher-bar a mosquito net canopy connected detachably to said suspension-cords, and means for moving said stretcher toward and away from said supporting-frame.

In a device of the class described, a supporting-frame having means for attachment to a bedstead, rods spaced apart and mounted to swing from said frame and extending longitudinally of said bedstead and above the same, a stretcher-bar slidable upon said rods and provided with a central guide member, a guy-cord connected at the ends to said rods and passing loosely through said guide member, suspensioncords extending be-' tween said supporting-frame and stretcherbar, a mosquito net canopy having spaced loops, means for connecting said loops to said suspension-cords, and means for moving said stretcher bar toward and away from said supporting-frame.
5. In a devlce of the class described spaced vertical members located adjacent to the head portion of a bedstead, means for detach ably connecting said vertical members to a bedstead, a stay member connected between said rods swinging from said vertical members, a stretcher member slidable upon said rods and provided with a central guide member, a guide-pulley upon said stay member a draw-cord connected to said stretcher-bar and leading through said guide-pulley and thence through said guide member a drawcord connected to said stretcher member, and a mosquito-net canopy suspended from said stretcher-bar.
6. In a device of the class described spaced vertical members located adjacent to the head portion of a bedstead, and provided with laterallyextending pins, sleeves rotative upon said vertical members and provided with vertical slots having transverse extensions for engaging said pins and limited in their movement thereby, rods rigidly connected to said sleeves and extending laterally therefrom, a mosquito-net cano y suspended from said rods, and means for fo ding said rods parallel to each other and transversely of said bedstead.
7.
