To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRInDRIon OTTO RICH- TER. a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Dessau, Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Construction of Radiators, of which the following is a specification.
In order to increase the effect of heating devices orradiators for central heating-for example, devices in which steam or very hot water is employedpipes open at the top and the bottom have been introduced into the heating devices in such a manner that they are entirely swept by the heating medium, and the air passing through the pipes consequently becomes heated. These heating devices or radiators have, however, the disadvantage that the external surfaces-that is to say, those exposed toward the roomare so heated that burns are easily caused, and in consequence of the heat given oif it is very unpleasant to remain near these devices. In the present invention this disadvantage is obviated by the formation of an air-passage in the more exposed portions by the arrangement of a longitudinal partition, so that the external surfaces of heating device are cooled by the air flowing through, by which means the surfaces directed toward the room are prevented from radiating too great a heat into the room.
In the accompanying drawings the object of the present invention is represented.
Figure 1 is a side view partly in section. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line A B in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of another constructional form, and Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of a heating device or radiator.
As shown in Fig. 1, the external construction of the heating device is'the same as formerly, only the internal arrangement differs, a middle piece or partition a being constructed in each vertical pipe d and connecting the side walls of the same substantially throughout its length, the passage 6 thusformed in the part exposed toward the room to be heated being similarly left open at the top and at the bottom. In these passages 6 there is a constant circulation of the air of the room, in consequence of which the external surfaces of the heating device are cooled. The inner passage 6 of each pipe conveys the heating medium through the apparatus.
In case the heating device is not intended to beplaced in a recess or corner, but against a wall in the room, the partition a in the two lateral end cylinders in, Fig. 4, is arranged, as shown in Fig. 3, in such manner that a cool-.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A radiator element provided with a passage for the heating medium, and an internal partition connecting the side walls of said element and dividing off said passage from the front outer wall.
2. Aradiator element provided with an internal partition connecting the sidewalls of the same and extending substantially throughout the length thereof, said element being provided at each end in front of said partition with an opening communicating with the passage formed by the latter at the front of said element.
