the means for transmitting the motion between the inertia-wheel and the running- Wheels; and it consists in certain novel features which will be hereinafter described, and

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a sectional view on the line a; :r of Fig. 2, showing the running-wheels and the mechanism for operating the same of a portion of a wheeled toy. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same.
In the preferred form of my invention the running-wheels and mechanism for operating the same are supported from a frame 1. Near the rear end of this frame are depending supports 2 2, which carry the shaft 3 of the running-wheels 4 4. Said wheels are fast to the shaft. A sprocket-wheel 5 is also fast on the shaft and is operatively connected by the I sprocket-chain 6- to the sprocket-wheel 7, which is fast on the shaft 8 of the frictionwheel 9. The shaft of the friction-wheel is carried by depending arms 19, which are pivoted to brackets 10. Intermediate the support forthe running-wheels and the bracket is a frame 11, which is rigidlyseoured to the frame 1 and has perforations at the lower end, which form bearings for the shaft of theinertia-wheel 12. Rigid on the shaft of the inertia-wheel is a drum 13, which is in contact with the friction-wheel. The pivotal connection of the arm 9 to the bracket 10 is so disposed that the weight of the frictionwheel normally holds the same in contact with the drum.
The operation of my device will be apparent from the above disclosure. The inertiawheel is set in motion by turning the running- Wheel, either by placing the same in contact with a surface or by hand or any other suitable means. N 0 pressure on the vehicle is necessary, for it will be noted that when the running-wheels are operated to store power in the inertia-wheel the pull on lower strand of the sprocket-chain 6 will draw the frictionwheel into better contact with the drum 13 and when the inertia-wheel is driving the vehicle the pull on the upper strand will also increase the frictional contact between the drum and friction-wheel. Thus it will be seen I have provided a mechanism which is very eflicient in action.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A wheeled toy, comprising in combination running-wheels, a friction-wheel, an inertia-wheel intermediate the friction and running wheels in operative engagement with the friction-wheel, an axle supporting the friction-wheel, movable bodily toward the axle of the inertia-wheel, a sprocket-wheel on the friction-wheel axle, a sprocket connected to the running -wheels, and a chain connected to the sprockets.
2. A wheeled toy, comprising in combination a frame, depending brackets carried thereby, running-wheels, a shaft supported in said brackets and connected to the running-Wheels, a sprocket-wheel on said shaft, arms pivotally connected to the frame, a shaft supported thereby, a friction-wheel carried by said last-named shaft, a sprocket- Wheel carried by and secured to the shaft on which the friction-wheel is mounted, an inertia-wheel intermediate the friction-wheel and the running-wheels, a drum connected to said inertia-wheel said drum being in driving contact with the friction-wheel.
