Be it known that I, WILLIAM IIETHERING- TON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everest, in the county of Brown and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Paint-Bucket Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to paint-bucket attachments, and has for its object to produce a simple inexpensive device of this character by means of which the bucket may be readily attached to a ladder, one wherein the bucket will. be maintained firmly and securely in position, and one which in practice will obviate liability of the bucket becoming upset and its contents spilled A further object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient device for receiving and holding a paint-brush when not in use.

To these ends the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention, showing the same applied for use. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bucket equipped with attachments embodying the invention,

and Fig. 3 is a view of the blank from which the retaining-bracket is formed.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a ladder having rounds 2, and 3 a pail or vessel provided with a bail or handle 1, these parts being of the usual or any appropriate construction and material, inasmuch as they constitute no part of the present invention. Attached to the vessel 3 by means of rivets or other suitable fastening members 5 is an attaching member or bracket 6, formed, preferably, from a single piece or blank of sheet metal bent into shape to produce a pair of side portions 7, connected by a wall or web 8 and spaced to receive between them one of the side bars of the ladder 1, there being formed in the outer side wall 7 a seat or recess 9 to receive one of the rounds 3 and produce an engaging hook 10, designed to securely engage the round, there being formed at the normally lower end of the inner side wall 7 an outturned portion or flange 11 for engagement by one or more of the fastening membore 5, by which the bracket is attached to the vessel.

In Fig. 3 there is illustrated a blank from which the bracket is formed and showing the same prior to bending the side portions 7 and flange 11 into position, it being understood that the blank in forming the bracket is bent or folded along the dotted lines 12 and 13, that portion of the blank which forms the normally inner side plate 7 being provided with perforations 14 to receive the fastening members, as is also the ear or flange 1.1..

In practice, the member 6 having been attached to the vessel, as illustrated herein, the latter may be disposed at any desired po sition upon the ladder by seating the bracket over one of the side rails of the ladder and engaging the hooks 1.0 with one of the rounds, which will enter and fit within the recess 9, as heretofore explained. It is to be understood in this connection that I have herein illustrated the device as adapted for attaching the vessel to the right-hand side of the ladder. The blank from which the bracket is formed may in practice be bent reversely to that herein shown, thus adapting the same for attaching the pail to the left-hand side of the lever. It will be observed that through the medium of the attaching member 6 the pail will be maintained securely in position upon the ladder, thus obviating liability of the vessel upsetting or its contents being spilled, and, further, owing to the bracket being attached to the side wall of the vessel at a point above the bottom of the ladder the said vessel will sit as usual upon the ground or any suitable support while being filled.

Attached to the normally front side of the pail is a brush-holding member or clip 15, formed from a single length of material bent in the form of a sleeve, said clipbeing dis posed at an angle relative to the vertical and adapted to readily receive and hold a brush 16 when not in use.

From the foregoing it is apparent that I produce a simple device admirably adapted for the attaimnent of the ends in view, it being understood that minor changes in the details herein set forth may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a device of the class described, a vessel, an attaching member carried thereby and designed to seat on the side bar of a ladder, said member comprising a pair of side plates, one of said plates having a recess producing a rung-engaging hook.

2. In a device of the class described, a vessel, an attaching member carried thereby and designed to seat on the side bar of a ladder, said member comprising a plate spaced from the side wall of the vessel and provided with a recess producing a rung-engaging hook.

3. As a new article of manufacture, a vessel-supporting bracket designed to seat over the side bar of a ladder and composed of a single blank of material shaped to present a pair of spaced side portions and a connectingweb, one of said side portions being provided I with a recess producing a rung engaging hook.
