Specification of Letters Patent.

To all 1072/07 21, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES ARTHUR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVatchmakers Tools, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to an improvement in watchmakers tools, and more particularly to IO a multiple key-wrench employed by watchmakers and repairers for adjusting the material in watchcase-pendants--that is, for adjusting the means contained within the pendant for holding or retaining the winding- 5 arbor in its winding and setting adjustments. As watchcase-pendants are made in different styles and sizes it is necessary for the watchmaker to have a number of different sizes of key-wrenches, and it is for the purpose of conveniently holding the several difierent styles and sizes that I have devised my improved tool.
A, further object is to provide a multiple key-wrench so constructed and arranged that 5 each individual wrench will be prevented from turning in the holder when in use.
-With these and other ends in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be 3 hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my improved keywrench. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of one of the wrenches detached from the holder. Fig. a is a view in side elevation of a modilied form of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents the 4 holder, preferably made of metal and in the form of a ring. This holder is provided with holes or openings extending through the same, the number corresponding to the number of key-wrenches to be contained therein.
In each of the openings is fitted a key-wrench 6 of different sizes, styles, and patterns,the rear ends 7, if necessary, being enlarged to nicely tfit Within the opening in the keyholder, said ends 7 being made of the same size in order 5 that each wrench will fit any one of the openings in the holder.
sAs shown in Fig. 3, the extreme inner or rear end of each wrench is slotted,as illustrated at 8. In order to impart a certain amount of elasticity to this end of the wrench it is again slotted at right angles to the first-mentioned slot, as illustrated at 9, the elasticity thus imparted tothe end of the wrench assisting in retaining it in place within the holder 5. It will of course be understood that this additional slot 9 is not absolutely essential, as in the making of the tool the wrenches are made to snugly lit within the opening in the holder and to lit suliiciently tight in the same as to avoid any danger of becoming accidentally dis engaged from the holder.
Within the holder 5 is contained the disk 10, the peripheral edge of which [its in the slots 8 of the several wrenches 6, the slotted end of the wrench extending through and beyond the inner circular edge of the holder 5, as illustrated in the several figures of the drawings, said disk, as will be readily understood, preventing the wrenches from turning or twisting in the holder when in use.
Instead of employing a disk 10, as illustrated in Fig. 1, I may employ a ring 11, the slotted ends of the wrenches fitting-thereon in the same manner as in the case of the disk 10, the ring accomplishing the same result that is, the prevention of the turning or twisting of the wrench within the holder when in use. Instead of the ring 11 (which is practically the disk 10 with the center of the disk removed) I prefer to employ the disk, as the tool so constructed is somewhat more convenient to handle.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the device is exceedingly simple in construction, is useful and convenient, in that the watchmaker is supplied with diiferent sizes and styles of wrenches all contained within the one holder, each wrench capable of being withdrawn from the holder and another inserted in its place. Further, by means of the disk or ring contained within the holder and fitting in the slotted ends of the wrenches the latter are prevented from turning or twisting while in use.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. A tool of the character described, com prising a holder having its central portion removed and formed with openings through the same for the reception of the wrenches,
wrenches fitting in said holder and having their rear ends slotted, and means contained within the central opening of said holder and extending transversely across the inner ends of the wrench-receiving openings and fitting in the slots in said wrenches to prevent the latter from turning, substantially as described.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a holding-ring provided with openings through the same, of Wrenches fitting in said openings each having its rear end slotted, and means contained within said ring and extending transversely across the inner ends of the Wrench-receiving openings and fitting in the slots of said wrenches for preventing the latter from turning in the holder, substantially as described.
3. In a tool of the character described, the combination with a holding-ring provided with several openings through the same, of wrenches fitting in and projecting through said openings and having their extreme ends slotted, and a disk contained Within said holding-ring and having its edge extending transreceiving openings said edge fitting in the 7 slots in said Wrenches for preventing the latter from turning in the holder, substantially as described.
4. In a tool of the character described, the combination With a holding ring provided with openings of a corresponding size, of Wrenches having their rear ends made of corresponding size and snugly fitting in and projecting through said openings, and means contained Within said holding-ring and extending transversely across the inner ends of the wrench-receiving openings and fitting in the slots formed in the ends of said wrenches for preventing the latter from turning in the holder, substantially as described.
