ANTOINE DE SOUZA, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
TRACTION-FWHEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 29, 1905'.
Application April 27, 1901. Serial N0. 57,715-
To all whom, it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, ANTOINE DE SoUzA, a citizen of the French Republic, and a resident of Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Traction-Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to traction-engines or motor-cars for road or field work, as well as to traction-engines used for military purposes; and it consists of a removable sole adapted to be fitted to the rim of the wheel and to increase the adherence of the wheels of the engine or motor-car.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a device provided with three prongs and made according to the principle of this invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1. I
The device shown in the drawings resembles a three-pronged fork A, the middle prong w whereof is triangular, tapering upward to a point, and is longer than the others, the outer prongs 11 being in the form of a right angle the wheel-rim.
and are also tapered at their ends. These prongs are made integral with the base or sole B. This sole is provided with holes 7 and 7, through which suitable bolts pass, whereby the device is tightly fixed to the rim 6 of the Wheel, 12 and 13 being packing-strips in tended to hold the aforesaid device against This type of device is that principally intended for field-work or in localities where the soil is extremely soft.
It must be clearly understood that the number of prongs andmanner of arranging same, as well as their shape, may be varied as necessity may require.
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with the rim of a wheel, of a base or sole B detachably fitted to the said rim and having an integral central prong a, triangular in shape and integral lateral prongs 11 in the form of a right angle and tapered as described, the central prong being longer than the said lateral prongs, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination with the rim of a wheel, of a base or sole B detachably fitted to said rim and having an integral central prong triangular in shape and lateral prongs 11 in the form of a right angle, the said central prong being longer than the said lateral prongs, and packing- strips 12, 13, all arranged as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ANTOINE DE SOUZA.
