To (all whom, it TIMI/y (ZO'I'I/(JUIH/J Be it known that I, BENJAMIN FREDERICK Cookies, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Fitzalan Works, Sheflield, county of York, England, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Ticket- Jlips :t'or Railwayagons, of which the following is a specification.
The objects of the invention are to enable the clip to hold larger tickets or papers than heretofore and to prevent over-straining the spring by opening the clip wider than necessary.
Referring to the drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a plan of the clip as secured to the side of a wagon, with the end view of the clipping-arm; Fig.
"2, side view of same, and Fig. end elevation of same. Fig. 4 is a plan view with the casing and base shown in dotted lines.
A is a spring-box containing a coiled spring, one end of which, B, is connected with the spring-box and the other with the axis of the clipping-arm C in such a manner as to cause the said arm to be pressed against the side of the wagon when the clip is screwed in position. These parts, except the arm (,1, are old and do not constitute part of my invention.
The lirst part oi my invention is the cranking of each side of the clipping-arm at 1.), thereby giving greater width of grip upon large tickets or papers than is usual, as hitherto the sides of the arm have been made in line with the ends of the spring-box.
The second part of the invention, which is of greater importance than the first part, is to prevent the spring being overstrained by any one pulling down the cli )ping-arn1 "G beyond the limit which is necessary to insert papers, and. so permanently damaging the spring and preventing the arm being pressed with suflicient force against the side of the wagon. To prevent this being done either accidentally or intentionally, l construct on each axial end of the arm a projection E, and I extend the ends of the base of the spring box laterally at F, so that when the arm is drawn down by turning upon its axis the projections E eventually come into contact with the extensions from the base, which form abutments or stops.
Having now described my invention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A spring-clip for holding tickets comprising a casing having a liat base, an axle rotatably supported therein, a spring coiled around the axle and having one end secured to the axle and its other end held between the casing and base, and a movable portion C having a pair of arms each of which is connected to one end of the axle outside of the casing, said arms having projections on their ends adapted to engage with the base when the portion 0 is raised, said arms being bent outwardly away from each other and connected to portion U, the width of portion 0 being greater than the space between the arms, substantially as described.
