PATENT OFFICE.
MORTIMER O. ROSENFELD, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
PIPE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,504, dated June 6, 1905.
Application filed May 23, 1904. Serial No. 209,359.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORTIMER C. ROSEN- FELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in pipe-hangers of that class employing a pipesupporting ring or band hung from a beam or other like support. V The object of the invention is to provide a ring or band composed of members pivoted in such manner as to permit of the ready opening of the ring for the application and removal of the pipe from the ring or the ring from the pipe without the necessity of wholly detaching the ring or its hanger; and a fur ther object is to provide a ring of this character which is cheap to manufacture and is of maximum strength.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hanger embodying Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the ring, showing the same opened to admit or release the pipe. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view of the ring.
Referring to the drawings,-1 represents an I-beam; 2, the improved supportingring; 3, the clamp connected to the I-beam; 4:, a hanger bar or link supporting the ring from the clamp. The ring 2 is composed of two substantially semicylindrical sections 5 and 6, each of said sections being provided at one end with a shank 7 8, bent at an angle to the ring-section 5 6 and adapted to receive be tween them the lower end of the bar 4 and apertured for the passage of a fastening-bolt 8, connecting the same and lower end of the hanger-bar together. The opposite ends of the sections 5 6 are bent at an angle to said sections 5 6 to form lugs 9 10, which extend approximately at an angle of about forty-five degrees to the plane of the ring-sections 5 6 and are pivotally connectedby a pin or rivet 11. By this construction either one .of the sections 5 and 6 of the'ring may be swung outward laterally from the pipe when the bolt 8 is partially withdrawn to release the same to enable the pipe to be removed ,or inspected, and the application of a pipe to the ring is also facilitated by this construction, as the necessity of entirely disengaging the ring from the hanger 4 is avoided.
It will be seen that by arranging the pivotal connection at an angle either section of the ring when swung upon the pivot 11 will move out laterally beyond the pipe and will not contact therewith, as it would do if the pivotal connection were disposed at right angles. Of course the angle at which the pivotal connection is arranged may be varied within certain limits without departing from the spirit of the invention, as the invention contemplates the arrangement'of the pivotal connection at any angle which will permit the section of the ring to be swung in the manner described.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings,
the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A pipe-hanger ring comprising sections provided with attaching ends and having their opposite ends bent to form lugs lying substantially at an angle of forty-five degrees to the plane of the ring, and a. pivot connecting the lugs, either section being thus adapted to be swung'out'wardly at an angle to the other, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have-hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, MORTIMER C. ROSENFELD.
