UNITED STATES Patented April 25, 1995.
PATENT OFFIC PLOW-STOCK- SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,341, dated April 25, 1905.
Application filed December 27, 1904. Serial No. 238,424.
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NARVEL COOPER WVADE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Summerland, in the county of Smith and State of M ississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Stocks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in plow-stocks; and the object of the invention is to produce a simple and efficient apparatus of this nature comprising various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my plow. Fig. 2 is a top plan view with the handles removed, and Fig. 3 is a bottom plan view.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a central beam through which bolts B pass, the ends of said bolts supporting the side beams O, which are parallel withthe central beam. Aguardbar D is fastened adjacent to the outer faces of each side beam O and is spaced apart therefrom, as shown clearly in the top plan view of the drawings, and the forward end of each bar I) is bent at an angle at D and again at D the forward end of each guard-bar being angled and held about the end of the extension of the central beam A. A bolt passes through the portions of the guard-bar which are held against the opposite faces of the extension of the central beam, and an aperture a is formed through said central extension for the reception of a clevis attaching device. The rear ends of the guard-bar are securely fastened to the rear end of the central beam. A yoke E is secured ,to the upper face of the central beam, near the rear end thereof, and
the arms of said yoke form supporting means for the handles F, while the forward ends of the handles are secured to a second yoke E, the arms of which are shorter than the arms of the yoke E. K K designate braces, which are secured to the under faces of said beams, two of said braces being fastened to the outer beams, While the intermediate brace is secured to the central beam and slightly in advance of the other braces. G G designate movable plow-standards, each made up of two bars, which are pivotally mounted upon the pins G, carried between the bars forming the plowstandards, and the upper portions of the shank portions of said standards carry pins G and G the former of which are positioned underneath the beams, while the latter are above the beams and so arranged that the plowstandards may be held in diflerent positions upon the beams for thepurpose of bringing the various standards either abreast of one another or in diagonal relation. Said braces K are held to the standards by means of the pins Or and bolts G which pass up through the apertures in said beams and are adapted to hold the upper ends of said braces in adjusted positions accordingly as it may be desired to hold the standards in the manner described for various purposes.
Fastened to the under surfaces of the beams O are the flexible curved arms O, the ends of which are secured to acovering-board G, the under edge of which is concaved, as shown in the drawings.
Pivotally mounted on the pins T, projecting from the inner face of each side beam, is a curved fender-bar R, which may be held in different positions and is adapted to protect the young plants.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by the provision of the apparatus shown and described a simple and eflicient implement is provided, whereby the plows may be held in different positions with relation to one another, and by the provision of the guard-bars the sides of the frame are protected against objects with which the apparatus. may come in contact, and the young plants will be protected by the fenders.
While I have shown a particular construction of apparatus illustrating my invention, it will be understood that I may vary the same, if desired, as to details without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A plow comprising a frame made up of three metallic beams, a metallic guard-bar secured adjacent to the outer face of each of the outer beams and spaced apart therefrom, the ends of said guard-bars being secured to the central beam, and adjustable plow-standards mounted upon said outer beams and guided in their longitudinal movements by the adjacent faces of an outer beam and guardbar, and handle-bars mounted upon the frame,
- as set forth.
2. A plow comprising a frame made up of three metallic beams, a metallic guard-bar secured adjacent to the outer face of each of the outer beams and spaced apart therefrom, the ends of said guard-bars being secured to the central beam, portions of said guards being bent to form braces which are fastened to said central beam, and the ends of the bars being angled and engaging over the ends of said central beam, adjustable plow-standards mounted upon the outer of said beams and guided in their longitudinal movements in the space intermediate the adjacent faces of the outer beamsand said guards, and handle-bars mounted upon the frame, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
