Description
UNITEB STA PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN JONES, OF CLYDE, NEW YORK.
APPARATUS FOR OPERATING WINDOW-BLINDS ANI) THEIR SLATS.
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it k nown that I, JOHN JONES, of Clyde, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented a new and Improyed Mode of Opening, Closing, and Fastening IVindow-Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in whichn Figure l represents an interior elevation of the window casing and blind, in the position as locked and the blind slats open. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, showing the locking bar arm, for opening and closing the slats of the blind and the arm4 for opening and closing the blind. Fig. 8 is a plan of same, showing more clearly the hollow shaft and arms and handles for actuating the apparatus.
The nature of my invention consists in an arrangement, by which the blind or slats may be opened and closed and the blind locked from the inside of the building without raising the sash.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my window frame in any of the known forms, and make the blind as pivot blinds are generally made, I then bore a hole through the window frame as shown Fig. 1, on a line with the inside of the blind, I cut a mortise into this hole large enough to receive t-he arms B H. The arms B I-I have a square hole at their center into which I insert the hollow shaft I, to which is conk nected the lever D. I then insert the shaft P int-o the hollow shaft I and: let it project through the window frame far enough to receive the lever J the other end of the lever J being connected to the blind by means of the rod L. I also have a lever on the inside of the building attached to the shaft P as shown at G Fig. 3 by which the blind is opened and closed. I also have a bolt A sliding on the window sill, having a slot in one end which hooks in the bracket N when the blind is locked, the bracket N being attached to the blind, the other end of the bolt A having two projections, between which the arm H projects, which arm moves the bolt when the lever D is moved. I also have two pins C C in the rod E which project out far enough for the lever B to hit against by which means the slats are opened and closed as shown in Fig. 1. By moving the lever l) to N o. 2 the slats are closed and by moving it to No. l the blind is unlocked, and by moving the lever G t-o No. 4l the blind is opened. This apparatus may be arranged high enough to bring the locking bolt on the bottom of the upper sash and accomplish the same purposes herein described.
That I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. The combination of the shaft P having two levers J G thereto attached, with the connecting rod L att-ached to the blind or shutter, the whole arranged substantially as herein described and constituting a blind or shutter opener.
2. I also claim in combination the hollow shaft I having a lever D at one end of the same, and two arms B H at its other eX- tremity; the bolt A with its bracket N and slot Q.; and the two pins c c attached to the blind rod E the whole forming an apparatus for working the slats and fastening the blind when closed substantially as herein described.
JOHN JONES.
l/Vit-nesses JOHN L. SMITH, C. SOFFURE.
