PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS HIRSOH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN G. J'ORY, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COMBINED RECEPTAOLE AND GAME-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 783,955, dated February 28, 1905.
Application filed June 6,1904. Serial No 211,232.
To (all whom/ it may concern/.-
Be it known that 1, AUGUsTUs Huzson, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Oombined Receptacle and Game-Counter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined receptacle and game-counter, and has for its object to provide a simple device for the reception of cards, chips, or other game devices and having a construction of numbered belts or bands by means of which scores may be kept. The device is also provided with slate or equivalent surfaces on which the memorandums may be made.
The invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim, reference being made to I the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 2 illustrates aplan view of the same with the glass and slate sur- 2 5 faces removed. Fig. 3 illustrates a vertical longitudinal section through the same, and Fig. A illustrates an enlarged section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
In the drawings, a designates a rectangular 3o receptacle or box having a bottom a, the side walls a, and end walls a and a. The end wall (0" extends only from the top surface to a point about half-way toward the bottom a, so as to leave an opening for the insertion of a drawer Z).
A strip 0 extends along each of the side walls a above the drawer b and forms a ledge a just below the top surface of the said side walls. Each of these strips is provided along 4 its top surfaces or ledges with a plurality of downwardly-extending sockets or depressions each socket or depression in one strip being directly opposite a similar socket or depression in the opposite strip.
A longitudinal partition or strip (Z extends centrally between the two end walls a and a and divides the upper portion of the receptacle into longitudinal compartments (Z. This strip is provided in its top surface with a plurality of cross-slots each of which has a 5 position in line with two of the sockets c" in the side strips 0. Rods or tubes preferably of glass, are supported at their ends in the sockets 0 and said rods each extend through one of the slots (1" in the partition (Z, so that the upper surfaces of the rods will be in a plane beneath the ledges c.'
A plurality of rollers f and f are each mounted on a horizontal shaft f and said shafts are each supported at their outer ends by the side strips 0, while the inner ends of said shafts are supported by the central partition or strip (Z.
Bands or belts g each have one end attached to the rollers f, and the other end of said 5 bands are secured to the rollers f. It will thus be understood that two rollers are provided for each band.
A stem f is attached in any suitable manner to the outer end of each shaft f and ex- 7 tends through the side wall a to the exterior of the receptacle, and the outer end of each stem is provided with a head f", by means of which the shaft and roller therein may be revolved.
The bands (1 extend from the roller f up and over two of the rods or tubes (1, so as to form a horizontal stretch of band directly below each of the transparent surfaces A, and then down and around the roller f, so that 30 the band will be unwound from one roller onto the other. The bands are each provided with numbers g7 or other characters.
A plate 71., preferably of glass and having transparent surfaces /1 fits down on the 5 ledge a between the side walls a and over the bands g.
A slate or other tabulating-surjface '2: also has position on the ledges 0' at opposite sides of said plate 71., and a molding-strip 7' secures 9 the plates It and i in position so as to cover the receptacle.
A spring-wire Z: extends in a direction parallel with and at the side of the partition (Z, and said wire is fed alternately beneath and then over the successive shafts and presses frictionally against the same to prevent them from turning accidentally.
plurality of hands having designating characters and each band being attached to a different pair of rollers and extending over two of said rods so as to form a horizontal stretch of the band immediately below each of the said transparent surfaces.
In testimony W h creot' l7 allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AUGUSTUS HIRSUII.
