Description

PATENTED FEB. 21, 1905.
F. N. DEWEY.
K; 04 Aw R1 M m5 PM mm m N M mm NA K UNITED STATES Patented February 21, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
KNOCKDOWN DISPLAY-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 782,835, dated February 21, 1905. Application filed March 22, 1904;. Serial No. 199,357-
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN N. DEWEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Benton Harbor, in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Display-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a rack of this character that is readily assembled and disassembled without mechanical skill and one that when assembled will be as rigid as a permanent structure; and with these and minor objects in view my invention consists of parts and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully set out.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a display-rack embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of one of the heads. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of one of the shelves.
1 represents sections of the rear leg of the rack, which are joined together by means of a sleeve 2. There are two of these rear legs. The front legs are composed of sections 3, joined together by means of a sleeve 4.
5 represents the heads of the rack, of suitable contour and provided with two openings 6, into which the upper end of the front and rear legs of the rack extend, thereby securing said legs in an upright position. The head is also provided with an opening 7 on the inner side thereof, into which the ends of the connecting-rod 8 extend. The ends of the legs and connecting-rod 8 are so positioned relatively within the head 5 that a single plug 9 looks all ofthem firmly in position in said head.
10 is a flexible display-apron, suspended from the connecting-rod 8 by means of suitable rings 11 at its upper end.
12 represents L-shaped shelves, the vertical member of which is secured to the flexible apron 10 by means of rivets 13. The ends of the vertical member of the shelves is extended beyond the shelf proper and bent backward to conform to the contour of the front legs,
thereby forming clasps adapted to engage said legs, and thus secure the flexible apron at the bottom and at points intermediate the top and the bottom to said legs. The clasp portion of the shelf is indicated by the reference-numeral 18.
Medals and other articles having pins may be displayed upon this rack by passing the pins thereof through the apron 10, while other articles may be displayed upon the shelves.
hat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A sample-rack comprising two pairs of side legs, a rod connecting the same at the top, a flexible display-apron suspended from said rod, shelves secured to said apron.
2. A sample-rack comprising two pairs of side legs, a rod connecting the same at the top, a flexible display-apron suspended from said rod, shelves secured to and suspended by I said apron and clamps on each end of said shelves constructed for engagement with the front leg of each pair of legs.
3. A sample-rack, comprising two pairs of knockdown legs, heads constructed to receive the upper end of each leg of one pair, a rod detachably connecting said heads, an apron suspended from said rod, shelves connected to said apron, clamps on the end of each shelf for detachably connecting the apron at its lower end and at points intermediate its ends to the front leg of each pair of legs.
4. A sample-rack, comprising two pairs of knockdown legs, heads constructed to receive the upper end of each leg of one pair, a rod detachably connecting said heads, means clamping each leg and said connecting-rod rigidly in said heads.
5. A sample-rack, comprising two pairs of knockdown legs, heads constructed to receive the upper end of each leg of one pair, a rod detachably connecting said heads, a single plug in each of said heads engaging each leg and said rod to lock them in said head against displacement.
6. A knockdown sample-rack comprising two pairs of side legs, a rod connecting the apron to the legs at the bottom thereof and same at the top, a flexible display-apron susintermediate its ends. 10 pended from said rod, a shelf L-shaped in In testimony WhereofI affix my signaturei eross-seotion secured to said apron, and clamppresence of two Witnesses.
ing extensions integral with the ends of the FRANKLIN N. DEWEY. Vertical member of the L- shaped shelf eon- Witnesses structed to engage the front leg of each pair C. L. MCDONALD, of legs positioned to support and attach the l E. L. FRANK.
