Description

J. BABICZKY..
lIIREPROI BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.29.1903.
vNo. 780,700. I
f UNITED STATES Patenteaanuary 24, 1905.
PATENT OEEIcE.
JOSEPH BABIOZKY, OF KNSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
FIREPFIOOF BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 780,700, dated January 24, 1905. Application filed October 29, 1903. Serial No. 179,098.
T all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH BABICZKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fireproof BuildingOonstructions; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved hollow {ireproof structure comprising a supportingframe .having double foraminated metallic walls spaced apart and forming the sides of the frame and a plastic filling in the space or spaces between the said double walls, said lilling projecting through the openings in the metal walls and being smoothed to form a coating on the exterior surface of the outer Walls, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical sectional View through a double wall or partition embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view through a chimney or tubular structure constructed in accordance with my invention.
In the form of my invention shown in Fig. l the studs orboards 8 are connected together by horizontal laths or cross-bars 7, which are secured thereto and spaced a suitable distance in from their outer edges. The inner walls 9 are of foraminous metallic material,- here shown as expanded metal sheets, and the same are secured to the said laths or cross-bars. The outer walls 10, which are appropriately spaced from the inner walls 9, are also of foraminous metallic material similar to that of Which the inner walls 9 arecomposed, and said outer walls are secured to the outer edges of the said studs or boards 8.4 A plastic filling 5 such as beaton, concrete, or cement-l is packed in the spaces between the double walls 9 10 and projects through the openings therein and is smoothed to form a coating on the exterior surfaces of the outer walls.
InA Fig. 2 my invention is shown in the form ofa chimney or tubular structure 1n which the frame 1s composed of inner and outer foraminous metallic walls 25 26, respectively, andk `circular bands 24, which are suitably spaced apart and to which the inner and outer walls are secured. A filling 6. such as hereinbefore described, is packed in the spaces between the innerk and outer walls and finished as hereinbefore described.
Theconstruction ancladvantages of my invention will be readily understood from thel foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that by using the expanded metal in the manner'described the same serves as a mold and becomes a permanent part of the structure to add strength to the same. The need of temporary molds or scaffolding is thus obvi- -ated, and the structure may be erected very rapidly and possesses great strength and durability.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hollow reproof structure comprising a supporting skeleton frame having doubled foraminated metallic Walls spaced apart and forming the sides of theframe, and a plastic filling in the spaces between the said doubled walls, said lilling projecting' through the opening in the metal walls and being smoothed to form a coating on the exterior surfaces of the outer walls.4
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing wit- JOSEPH BABICZKY.
Messes.
