CIGARETTE-TIP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 779,817, dated January 10, 1905. Application filed June 17, 1904. Serial No. 213,000.

To (ZZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, HENRYP. STRAUsE and LEOPOLD KEHLMANN, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette-Tip, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Our invention relates to cigarettes, our more particular object being to produce an improved tip therefor having sanitary and other advantages and being useful for purposes of advertising independently of the usual oflice performed by the tip.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a cigarette made in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the same upon the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing the tip as detached from the cigarette.

The envelop 4 is made of paper or any equivalent therefor and is filled with tobacco 5 in the usual manner. The tip 6 is made of silk fabric, as indicated more particularly in Fig. 2. The tip is provided with a portion 7 upon which graphic symbols may be placed for purposes of advertising. This portion may be of a different color than the balance of the tip in order that the letters or other graphic symbols borne by it may be rendered more noticeable, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 3. The tip is made long in order to provide the space occupied by the graphic symbols, as will be readily understood.

We find that the materials heretofore used for printing advertisements directly upon the paper 4: give an unpleasant flavor to the cigadescribed prevents the cigarette from sticking to the lips, this feature of the ordinary tip being quite objectionable, and especially in cold weather, when the lips are usually more or less chapped.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as, new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a cigarette, the combination of a paper envelop and a silk tip connected therewith,

said silk tip being comparatively long and pro vided with graphic symbols placed directly thereupon, said graphic symbols being disposed exteriorly upon the end of said tip nearest the center of the cigarette.
