-*QL. TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HOWELL W. WRIGHT, of Taunton, in the county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Alloy of Metals to be Used in the Manufacture of Spoons and Forks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The object of this invention is'to provide such an'alloy or composition of metals as will take the place of silver, plated ware, nickel silver, Britannia, or other metals now commonly used for thv aboveernentioned purposes.
I have found that an alloy made of one-quarter nickel-and three-quarters copper; produces a strong white metal, which can be easily worked and manufactured into spoons and forks.
The alloy so formed has some of the characters of sterling silver. It is quite as strong, or SlZIOXlgOlOf nearly the same specific gravity; it does not easily tarnish o'r corrode, takes a high polish, and does not change in color with common tableusage. It difl'ers from German or nickel silver, as it contains no zinc, and has a whiter color.
I desire to secure an alloy containing between one-sixth and one-third of its weight of nickel, with between five-sixths and two-thirds of its \veightof copper, for the purposes above specified.
But I prefer to use an alloy composed of copper and nickel, in the proportions of twenty-five to thirty per cent. of the latter, with seventy to seventy-five per cent. of the former. It is run into bars, then rolled out and formed into spoons and forks.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The Within-described alIoy, or composition ofmetals, or any othcr substantially the same, all as and for the purposes set forth.
