ed certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream Freezers, of which the followingv is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

rllhis invention has relation to ice-cream freezers and shipping-tubs, and has for its object theprovision of novel means whereby the ice-cream can, which is located within the shipping-tub,can be thoroughly packed to preserve the character and quality of the cream containedV within the ice-cream can.

My invention further resides in providing novel means for packing the ice contained within` the tub and removing the water therefrom; and the invention further contemplates constructing an attachment for freezing-cans .and shipping-tubs which will embody particular features from which the results enumerated above may be obtained.

. Brieiiy described, -my invention consists of a cylindrical casing which is adapted to iit over the freezing-can and close the space which exists between the shipping-tub and the can, and I have providedthe casing witha suitable cover or lid having formed therein peepholes, whereby the condition of the ice may be from-time to time observed.` Y The above construction will be more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and referring'to the drawings ac-V companying this application` Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of the shipping-tub, showlng my Improvement mounted therein.

whereby the same may be'soldered .or otherwise secured to the sleeve 3th1s sleeve being made of a suiiicient length to slightly project above the top flange 7 of the shell, whereby a lid or cover maybe secured; thereon. The lid or cover consists of an annular shell '8, having a bottom 9 formed therein, and in the top of the shell V8 is soldered or otherwise secured a flanged top 10, forming a receptacle between said top and thebottom 9. Thebottom 6 of the shell, which its within the shipping or packing tub, is provided with an aperture 11, in which a suitable pipe 12 is placed, and the top 5 of this same shell is provided with a suitable opening 14, and a pivoted gate or lid 15 is mounted upon the top 5, whereby the opening 14 may be closed when so desired. The top lO of the lid or cover is also provided with an opening 16, and a suitable gate or cover 17 is pivotedto the top 10, whereby this opening may be closed at anytime it is desired. Y

It will thus be seen that my invention resides' in the provision of a novel attachment which may be readily used upon shipping or packing tubs and cans of the ordinary construction, andthe' manner of using this improved attachment is as follows: We will assume that the frozen ice-cream is packed within the can zand it be desiredto preserve or keep the same for a long period of time. The space 18, which exists in the bottom of the tub, is iilled with ice, the ice surrounding' the can 2 containing the cream and maintaining a low degree of ltemperature in this compartment. Ice is then placed in the shell formed by the top 5, the bottom 6, and the sides 4, the ice being placed therein through the opening 14. Ice is also placed within the lid v8, the ice being placed through the opening 16 into the space which exists between the bottom 9 and the top 10, which form the lid. Ice or a suitable freezing' agent having been placed in its respective compartments, the attachment is adapted to maintain the position it assumes within the shipping or packing tub until some of the ice has become melted or disintegrated, at which time the attachment Will gradually sink to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig'. 2. Upon the ice becoming melted in the larger compartments sui'- rounding the sleeve 3 more ice may be admitted to this compartment through the opening 14, and what water that may accumulate Within said compartment may be removed by the pipe 12.

From the above it will be seen that a quantity of ice may be stored within the shipping' or packing' tub, whereby as the same melts or becomes disintegrated the cream within the freezing or packing can 2 will be at all times kept in a cool state, owing to ice continually surrounding the same.

While 1 have herein shown the preferred manner of constructing my improvement for ice-cream cans and shipping-tubs, 1 desire it to be understood that l do not care to limit myself to this speciiic construction, but may depart therefrom, as will be permitted by the scope of the appended claims.

What l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination with a packing-can and an ice-receptacle surrounding the can and removably mounted tliereomsaid receptacle having a closed bottom and a top, the latter being provided with means for introducing icc into the receptacle, of a cover renmvably mounted on the said receptacle, said cover having a closed bottom, and a top, the latter being provided with means for introducing icc into the cover.

2. The combination with a tub and a packing-can, of a hollow receptacle slidably mountcd upon said packing-can, said receptacle having an opening formed therein, a hollow lid adapted to lit over said receptacle and said packing-can, said hollow lid having an opening formed therein, and means for closing' said openings, substantially as described.

3 The combination with a tub and a packing-can, of a sleeve slidably mounted upon said packing-can, a cylindrical shell secured to said sleeve, said shell having an opening formed therein, a hollow lid adapted to lit over said sleeve, said lid having' an opening formed therein, and means for closing said openings, substantially as described.
