Description

UNITED STAT S Patented October 4, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,568, dated October 4, 1904.
Application filed June 25, 1904.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that we, CHARLES OSSE and SAM- UEL A. EwAL'r, citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for preventing refilling of bottles or other vessels.
The object of the invention is to provide a device that may be secured in the neck of 'a bottle or other vessel and which will permit the liquid contents to be poured out, but will not allow liquid to enter into the bottle.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of the device in a bottle-neck. Fig. 2 shows a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a View of the skeleton frame comprising the valve-seat, baflie-plate, guide-rods connecting said parts, and valve. Fig. 4. shows two veiws of the valve.
A tube a of any suitable material is adapted to be inserted in and secured within the neck of a bottle. The upper end of the tube is preferably slightly flared, as at b, to fit closely against the rim or mouth of the bottle. Secured to the lower end of said tube is a conical-shaped collar or valve-seat 0. The small end or seat proper is located up into the tube, and the base or flared end 0 is lowermost and completely fills or closes the tube and is secured thereto.
Parallel rods (Z have their lower ends secured to the conical-shaped collar, but do not obstruct the valve-seat c. A battle-plate e,
substantially circular in shape, is of smaller diameter than the inside of the tube a and has on its rim a plural numberof tangs e, which when the bafiie-plate is in position impinge against the inner wall of the tube. The shape of the bafiie-plate when in the tube Serial No. 214;,088. (No model.)
forms segmental-shaped slots or passages f. The upper ends of the parallel rods (Z are secured to the bafiie-plate, and thereby a skeleton frame is formed, as seen in Fig. 3, comprising the collar or valve-scat, the bafiieplate, and the rods. A valve g has on its rim eyes g, which fit loosely on the rods (Z, and thus enable the valve to slide freely up and down. When the valve g is down on its seat 0, as in Fig. 1, it is impossible for liquid to be entered into the bottle. When the valve g has the position shown in Fig. 8, liquid may be poured out of the bottle. The tube has an annular shoulder ii around its inner wall above the segmental slots f and acts as a cover over said slots and prevents a wire from being inserted from the mouth of the bottle down said slots in an attempt to unseat the valve.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A device for preventing the refilling of bottles comprising a tube to be inserted and secured within the bottle-neck; a conical-shaped collar having its large end secured to the lower end of the tube--the smaller end or valve-seat of said collar being located up into the tube; a bafile plate substantially circular but of smaller diameter than the interior of the tube and having tangs on its rim-said plate forming in the tube segment-shaped passages; parallel rods connecting between the conical collar and said baffle-plate, and a valve to cover the opening in the valve-seat and having eyes which fit loosely on said rods.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES OSSE. SAMUEL A. EVVALT.
