INVENTOR W WITNESSES UNITED STATES Patented September 13, 1904.
PATENT EEicE.
COMBINED HOSPITAL-WAGON AND OPERATING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 770,152, dated September 13, 1904.
Application filed January 14, 1903. Serial No. 139,008- (No model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER K. BEOHTEL, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Combined Hospital- Wagon and Operating-Table, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved apparatus, and Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
My invention relates to the tables used in hospitals and is designed to combine an operating-table with a traveling litter or wagon, so that the patient may be moved upon the same table which is used during the operation.
In the drawings, 2 represents the table having end handles 3 3. At the sides of the table are curved depending supports 4 4:, riveted at their lower ends to tubular guides 5. The casters 6 are rotatably mounted at the lower ends of cylindrical posts 7, extending up through the guides 5, and to the upper ends of the posts are pivoted rods 8, carrying at their upper ends fulcrum-pins 9, on which are mounted lever-arms 10, connected to the ends of rock-shafts 11, mounted in brackets 12, secured to the lower face of the table. The table-legs 13 are provided with upper braces 14, connected to the supports t, and to the lower parts of the legs are rigidly secured brackets 15, fastened to the tubular guides 5, surrounding the posts 7. To raise and lower the table and legs relatively to the wheeled supports, I provide a bent-end lever 16, pivoted to a support 17 on the cross-braces 18 and connected by link 19'with a long rod 20,
having pivoted to its ends the curved links 21, whose other ends are connected to the rock-shafts 11. At the opposite end of the rod 20 a strong spiral spring 22 is provided, which is hooked to the end of the table. This spring holds the lever in either extreme position, and when the lever is forced down the table is lifted to the plane shown in dotted lines and the legs raised, so that the weight is carried on the casters or wheels. While in the posit-ion shown the table is supported on the legs, which carry the weight, so that the table can be used as an operating-table.
The advantage of my invention results from the doing away with the necessity for moving the patient from the wagon to the operatingtable, thus saving time and labor, as well as the strength of the patient. The apparatus may be cheaply made of angles or commercial shapes and is found efficient and practical.
Many changes may be made in the mechanism for raising and lowering the legs without departing from my invention.
I claim .A hospital-wagon mounted on wheeled supports, legs normally above the level of the wheels, lever mechanism at both ends of the table, connections between said lever mechanisms, an end lever arranged to actuate the mechanisms and move the table vertically in parallel lines, and a spring arranged to hold the levers in either extreme position; substantially as described. I
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
