SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,574, dated September 6, 1904.

Be it known that l, J osn F. UTRILLA, a citizen of Cuba, and a resident of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Condenser for Vacuum-Pans, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in condensers used in connection with sugar-machines, an object being to provide a simple means for drawing gases from the condenser and dispensing with the vacuum-pump usually employed.
I will describe a condenser embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is an elevation, partly in section, of a condenser embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a vacuum-pan of a sugar-machine having avapor-pipe connection 2 with the condenser-cylinder 3. Leading into the upper end of the condenser 3 is a water-injecting pipe 4, and
Providing communication between the upper end of the cylinder 3 and the discharge-pipe 5 at a point above its reduced portion 6 and below the cylinder is an air or gas pipe 9.
In the operation as the water runs through the condenser and through the pipe 5 it will create a suction in the pipe 9, drawing ofl gases that may accumulate in the upper portion of the condenser. The reduced portion 6 will cause a slight choking of the water. and thus insure a drawing oil' of the vapors 01' gases.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent ln sugar machinery, the combination with a condenser-cylinder, of an injector-pipe leading into the upper portion of the cylinder, a discharge-pipe leading from the lower end of the cylinder and having a reduced portion, and a gas-discharge pipe communicating with the upper portion of the cylinder and connecting with the discharge-pipe between the cylinder and the reduced portion of said discharge-pipe.
