Description

PATENTED SEPT. 6, 1904.
J. KSTER. WATER TUBE STEAM GENERATOR.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 13. 1904.
N0 MODEL.
Patented September 6, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
JULlUS KSTER, OF ZlTTAU, GERMANY.
WATER-TUBE STEAM-GENERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,547, dated September 6, 1904.
Application led June 13,1904. Serial No. 212,370. (No model.)
To (Li/Z when@ 'it ntf/.y concern.:
Be it known that l, JULIUs Kos'rnr., a subject of the liing of Saxony, and a resident of Zittau. Germany, (whose post-office address is No. B Bahnhofstrasse, Zittau, Saxony. German Empire,) have invented new and useful VImprovements in Tater-Tube Steam-(atenerators, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to steam-generators with erect water-tubes which are so connected one with the other that the water is supplied to all of them from below and the steam led oli' from above.
The improvement chiefly consists in each of the water-tubes being divided into several compai tments or chambers and in special devices beingl arranged in each of these compartments for promoting the circulation of the water-tube.
The invention is illustrated on the here-annexed drawings, of which Figure l represents a cross-section of the generator ou the line l l of Fig. 3; Fig. f, a longitudinal section on line 2 2 of Fig. 3; Fig. B, a horizontal section; Fig. 4, a longitudinal section of one of the water-tubes, in enlarged scale.
lach water-tube A, Fig. et, is divided by partitions f/ into separate compartments c l c. rl`hese partitions. however, do nottit tightly against the wall of the tube A, but leave an interval of sutiicient size to allow so much water to pass upward as is requisite to compensate for the water converted into steam. lVithin the compartments and coaxial therewith are located tubesfg /aopen at both ends, which serve for promoting the circulation of the water. The lowerniost of the circulationtubes maybe secured to the water-tube by angle-irons and rivets and the partition-walls and the other circulation-tubes may be built up on the lowermost tube in the same way, as this clearly shown in Fig. i of the drawings.
The combustion-chamber of the furnace is provided with substantially horizontal walls or partitions m n, of refractory material,
through which pass the described water-tubes, the position of said refractory partitions ym vn corresponding to that of the partitions within the water-tubes. Said partitions, which are provided with openings at alternate ends, determine the course of the heating-gases proceeding from the adjacent grate, as marked by arrow in Fig. 2. The gases iii-st pass along the upper portion i' of the water-tubes corresponding to the uppermost compartment. rl`hen they pass downward and backward, thus sweeping over the surfaces ot' the watertubes corresponding to the next lower compartment, and so on, according to the number of compartments in each water-tube. The gases thus pass along the outer surfaces of the water-tubes in a direction opposite to that in which iiows the water within the tubes. On account otl the fact that in each of the compartments into which the water-tubes are divided the water between the wall ot' the water-tube and that of the internal circulationtube is heated, whereas to the water within said circulation-tube no heat is directly supplied, there arises a state of circulation in which the water between the water-tube and the circulation-tube rises and then descends within said circulation-tube, after which it rises again, as before.
n is the pipe by which all the water-tubes are supplied with water by pipes y). The steam is led ott' from the upper portion of the water-tubes by pipes r to the common steampipe s.
z is a pipe connecting the common steampipe with the water-supply pipe o, in which pipe t may be arranged the water-gage.
lVhat l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States of America, isY
