PATENT ()EEIcE.
SHOWER-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,390, dated September 6, 1904,
A li ati fil d November 18, 1903. Serial No. 181,627. (No model.)
To all 2071/0112 it may concern.-
Be it kn own that I, WVILLIAM HORATIO LAW- RENCE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of 'orcester, in the county of W'orcester and State of Nlassachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Shower-Ring, of which the following is a full, clear. and exact description.
The invention relates to bathing apparatus; and its object is to provide a new and improved shower-ring arranged to permit the bather to readily place the ring in position on the neck and remove it therefrom whenever it is desired to do so.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improvement as applied and in an open position. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the improvementin a closed position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of part of the improvement, showing more particularly the connection between the swing-section and the nipple; and Fig. A is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the interlocking joint between the sections of the ring.
The shower-ring illustrated in the drawings consists, essentially, of ring-sections A and B, of which the section A is secured at one end to one side of a nipple (I, connected at its middle by a hose D with a water-supply, and the other ring-section, B, has a threaded end B screwingin a corresponding thread (7 on the side of the nipple G opposite the one engaged by the ring-section A.
The ring-sections A and B are provided on the under side with perforations E for the passage of the water in minute jets onto the body of the bather, as is well known. The free ends of the ring-sections A and B are closed by plugs F and Gr, of which the plug G projects slightly beyond the free end of the ring-section B and fits into a corresponding socket in the free end of the other section A, the said socket being formed by setting the plug Fa short distance back from the terminal of thet'ree end of the ring-section A, as plainly indicated in Fig. A, to enable said projecting plug to engage said free end.
By the arrangement described the ringscctions A and B can be sprung sufficiently far apart at their free ends to disengage the plug G from the terminal of the ring-section A, and then the section B can be turned by screwing the end B in the thread 0 of the nipple to bring the ring-section B into an open position, asillnstrated in Fig. l. \Vhen the ring-section B is in this position, the shower-ring can be readily placed in position on the bathers neck by passing the ring-section laterally with the opening between the sections around the neck of the bather. \Vhen this has been done, the bather swings the ring section B back into a closed position and springs the projecting end of the plug Gr in the end of the ring-section A to interlock the free ends of the sections A and B, as plainly shown in Fig. A. By the arrangement described the water passing from the water-supply through the hose I) into the nipple U flows from the latter into the ringsections A and B and through the perforations E thereof onto the body of the bather. As the terminals of the free ends of the ringsections A and B are closed by the plugs F and G, it is evident that water is not liable to leak out of the interlocking joint.
In order to insure an easy connection between the plug and the socket in the ringsection A, the terminals of the ring-sections have beveled cuts, and the projecting end of the plug G is correspondingly beveled.
I do not limit myself to the particular arrangement of swinging the ring-section B in the nipple C, as other means besides those described may be employed for accomplishing the same result.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A shower-ring provided with a nipple for connection with a water-supply, and ring-sections having perforations, of which one ringsection is rigidly secured at one end in the said nipple, and the other ringsection is mounted to turn in the nipple, the free ends of the sections having closing-plugs, one of which projects beyond the terminal of its section and the other of which is somewhat depressed, to form a socket in the terminal of the other section into which said projection IO is received, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM HORATIO LAWRENCE.
