Description

PATENTED AUG. 2, 1904'.
H. HUNDRIESBR. MAGAZINE FIREARM. APPLICATION FILED mm: 15, 1904.
N0 MODEL.
UNTTED STATES Patented August 2, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
MAGAZINE-FIREARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,622, dated August 2, 1904.
Application filed June 15, 1.904
to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form'part of this specification. I
In guns having a cylindrical breech construction the breech-piece is usually locked in I 5 the closed position in which firing takes place.
According to my invention this locking is effected in well-known manner by a wedge- ,shaped member engaging with the breechbolt. This wedge engages in the bolt directly 2o behind the part acting as a stop for the cartridges, a recess being provided for the purpose in the wedge. Through this recess there also passes the striker, which is provided with a claw to engage the wedge. On the striker 2 5 operating the claw disengages the wedge, so
that the latter is released. By the'movement of the trigger, however, a supporting-block connected with the latter is pulled below the wedge, which is thus locked also, in the forward position of the striker.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which show one construction which may be adopted.
Figure l is a longitudinal section of the breech portion of a gun according to my invention. I Fig. 2 is a like view, the breech being closed. Fig. 3 is a like View subsequent to firing. Fig. 4 is a cross-section taken through the breech. Fig. 5 is a perspective 4 view of the locking-wedge.
a is the gun-stock, provided with the butt?) and with a sliding handpiece 0, furnished with a bar (Z. The slide 0 is seized by the left hand, and for the purpose of opening the breech is drawn back, as shown in Fig. 1. The bar cl terminates in a cam-surface cl, which on the slide 0 being drawn back slides over the projection c of the wedge f, controlled by the spring 72 and engaging in a re- Serial No. 212,747. (No model.)
ceives' the striker lo and its spring and is guided between the side walls of the lock. The striker Z6 is provided at its front end with a claw Z, which engages in the recess m of the wedge f in order to secure the latter in the locked position.
The bar (Z is provided on the top with projections g 9 situated at a suitable distance apart. Between the said projections is located a nose It of the breech-bolt 2'. On the part 0 being drawn back the bar (Z slides over the projection e of the wedge f, and on the projection g striking the nose It the latter is pushed back. Hereby the hammer 0, actuated by the spring 1), is cooked. The spring 39 throws the cock forward immediately the trigger g releases the cock. The supportingblock r is linked to the trigger g in such manner that on the latter being drawn the block is pulled back until it comes below the wedge f, as shown in Fig. 3. The block W prevents the wedge f falling freely down, and thus unintentionally causing unlocking. The block 9 on release of the trigger l] is so far pushed away that it completely disengages the wedge f. In the closed position of the lock the claw Z of the striker is engages in the recess m of the wedge f and secures the latter in place.
The special advantages attaching to this construction of gun are that the cartridges can be inserted into the magazine in the manner of the well-known cartridge-bands and that it takes no longer to insert five or more cartridges than it does to insert one. Furthermore, by raising or turning aside the cover-plate the lock can be very easily removed, so that the barrel can be cleaned and washed from the lock end. The various parts of the gun are extremely compact and strong.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a repeating gun, in combination, a slide, having a bar with a cam-surface and projections a recessed breech-bolt having a nose located between said projections, a spring-controlled striker having a claw, located in the breech-bolt a vertically-sliding spring-actumy name, this 28th day of May, 1904:, in the ated locking-Wedge engaging in the bolt-represence of two subscribing Witnesses. cess and having a pro3eotion, and a recess to receive said claw, a trigger, and a Wedge- HANS HUNDRHLSER 5 supporting block 0* linked thereto, all sub- Witnesses:
stantially as described. WOLDEMAR HAUPT,
In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed HENRY HASPER.
