SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 766,533, dated August 2, 1904.

To all who/i1, 'it 11er/,y concern.:
Be it known that I, FREEMAN SCOTT, a citizen of the United States, residing' at Decatur, in the county of Macon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Elevators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying' drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in grain-elevators, and has for an object the provision of a portable structure of this character and also novel dumping means associated therewith.
The novel details in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of the apparatus will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and wherein a preferable embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawings, Figure I is a perspective View of the apparatus, showing the carrier in lowermost position (dotted lines) and in its upper dumpingposition, (full lines;) and Fig. 9. is a side elevation showing the parts in folded position.
Referring more specifically tothe drawings, wherein like reference characters refer to corresponding parts in the several views, A designates inclined parallel guides formed with inside projecting portions a, constituting a runway, the upper edges of said portions being curved or inclined rearwardly and downwardly, as at a', for a purpose to be hereinafter specified. The inclined members A are supported at their lower ends by casters arranged adjacent to the respective ends of a base or cross-piece B, while the opposite ends of said members are supported through the medium of standards C, pivoted at c thereto. Outward movement of the standards is limited by stops c on the outer surfaces of the members A, and the standards are further held in adjusted position to regulate the degree of inclination of the apparatus by bracerods D, pivoted to said uprights at Z and notched on their lower edges, as at CZ', for engagement over pins d on the guide members A. i
Arranged to traverse the inclined runway is a carrier E, normally resting upon the base B, as shown by dotted lines, Fig. 1, in position to receive the material to be elevated. The means for elevating the carrier comprises a bail f, to which is attached an operatingcable F, said cable in turn passing upwardly around a pulleyf, supported intermediate the ends of the top piece g of a bridge G, projecting vertically from the members A and thereacross. (Clearly shown in Fig. I.) The side pieces g of the bridge are pivoted to the members A by a cross-bolt g and are held against pivotal movement while in operative position by another removable cross-bolt H, passing through the side pieces and suitable apertures in the members B. The return end of the operating-cable passes downwardly and under a second pulley f", mounted upon the base B, and thence outwardly to any preferred horse or other power. The bridge just referred to is disposed at a point relative to the guide members A slightly inwardly from the curved end of the projecting portions a, constituting the runway, whereby when the carrier E has been drawn upwardly to the position shown in full lines in Fig. l the rear end of the carrier is elevated, so as to rock the forward end thereof upon said curved end, whereby dumping or emptying of the carrier is effected.
The carrier is provided on its under surface with runners e, the two outer ones of which are arranged to traverso the upper surfaces of the inwardly-projecting' portions (t of the guide members A. These runners also materially strengthen the carrier.
The carrier when in operative position may be shifted from place to place upon the casters B and the wheels b', mounted upon the lower ends of the standards O.
Vhen the apparatus is folded for purposes of storage or transportation, the several parts thereof will occupy the position illustrated in Fig. Q-that is, the cross-bolt H will be removed to release the bridge G, whereupon the same will be folded upon the members A. The braces D will be released from the pins d and folded with the uprights C upon the outer surfaces of the members A, with the edge of the uprights contacting with the pins TOO d and stops c. W hen-thus folded, the apparatus is supported upon the casters I), wheels B', both before referred to, and the casters z' upona cross-piece I at the upper end of the members A.
It is obvious that slight changes in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of the apparatus maybe made without departing from the spirit of thel invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is

In an apparatus of the character described, an inclined runway, the upper end of said runway being inclined rearwardly, a pulley suspended above said upper end, a carrier arranged to traverse said runway, and means for operating the carrier including a bail pivoted thereto and a cable secured to the bail and passing over said pulley whereby the rear portion of the carrier is elevated to rock the forward end thereof upon said inclined upper end of the runway. y
2. In an apparatus ofl the character described, an inclined runway, the upper end of said runway being inclined rearwardly, a bridge extending across said upper end, a pulley mounted upon the top piece of said bridge, a carrier arranged to traverse said runway, and means for operating the carrier including a bail pivoted thereto and a cable secured to the bail and passing over said pulley whereby the rear portion of the carrier is elevated to rock the forward end thereof upon the upper end of the runway.
3. In an apparatus of the character dei scribed, an inclined runway, a caster at the base thereof, a caster mounted at ,the upper end thereof, supportingestandards for said inclined runway, and means whereby said standards may be folded to lower the apparatus into a substantially horizontal plane upon said casters.
4. In an apparatus of the character described, an inclined runway, a caster mounted thereon, supporting-standards for said runway, a wheel carried by said standards, and means whereby said standards may be folded to lower the apparatus into a substantially horizontal plane upon said caster and said wheel.
5. In an apparatus of the character described, an inclined runway, a caster at thebase thereof, a caster mounted at the upper end thereof, supporting-standards for said inclined runway, a wheel carried by said standl .be folded tolower the apparatus onto said wheel.
