SIGN-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 764,838, dated July 12, 1904:.
Application filed October 10,1903. Serial No. 176,524- (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERBERT S. BUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dekalb, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sign-boards, and has for its object to provide a sign-board having a plurality of spaces each adapted to receive a plurality of panel-like members upon which is placed advertising matter, to pro vide a sign-board capable of being knocked down and packed into small space for shipment, to provide a sign-board adapted to hold various sizes and shapes of panel-like members which may be readily detached and replaced by others, and in general to provide a neat, cheap, durable, and improved signboard of the character referred to.
To the above ends the invention consists in the matters hereinafter described and claimed and will be readily understood from such description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, and in which-- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a signboard embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a detail view showing the manner of clamping the panels to the main frame.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a base of any desirable construction having mounted thereon a skeleton frame (designated as a whole 2) composed of tubular members 3-as for exam 1e, ordinarv gasi e 7 a and connected at their ends by means of crosses 4, Ts 5, and elbows 6 in the usual well-known manner and forming in the present instance three squares, supported a short distance above the base by the lower portions 3 of the vertical tubular members 3,which are secured to the base I in any suitable manner, but preferably by means of the threaded floor-flanges 7 7. The panel-like members or bill-boards proper, 8, are made of fiat boards or other suitable sheet-like material and of such sizes and shapes that two or more taken together will occupy one of the squares, thus making it possible to use the separate sections of each panel for separate articles. The panels are detachable and are held in place by a series of two-part clamps 9, one end of which is adapted to embrace the tubular member 3 and the other end of which embraces the edge of the panel 8. The two parts of said clamp are held together by means of a bolt 10. As
' these panels or bill-boards are thus removably placed within the main frame, it is obvious that panels containing different advertising matter may be substituted from time to time for those in the frame as circumstances may require. 11 11 designate two short extensions at the top of the main frame, holding between them by means of the clamps 9 9 a narrow flat board 12, upon which may be placed any label or the likeas, for example, the name of the business. In order to more firmly hold said skeleton frame in an upright position, the brace-rods 13 13 are provided and may be attached to all or only a few of the vertical tubular members, as may be desired. 14c 14 designate two button-like members placed at the meeting edges of the panel-sections and overlying the same to hold said panel-sections against swinging. These button members are composed of two pieces tied together, one on each side of the panel. 15 15 designate incandescent lamps secured to said skeleton frame at such points as may be desired and are provided with an electric current from any suitable source through the wires 16, leading thereto through the base member and the tubular members constituting the frame.
I claiml. A sign-board comprising a rectangular skeleton frame divided into a plurality of component rectangular receiving-frames, a plurality of correspondingly-formed plain solid panel members adapted to receive advertising matter unitedly occupying substantially the entire space comprised within said respective receiving-frames and lying Within the plane of the latter, means for detachably and interchangeably securing said panels by their outer margins to the frame members; and means for detachably uniting the inner adjacent margins of said panels to each other, substantially as described.
2. A sign-board comprising a rectangular IOO by their outer margins to the frame members, I and a single clamp serving to detachably unite the inner adjacent margins of said panels to each other, substantially as described.
HERBERT S. BUSH.
