Be it known that I, MILTON ALBEN, of the city of Auburn, in thoeounty et Cayuga, and State of New York, have invented a new and'useful Improvement for Fastening the Teeth in Horse-Rakes; and I do vhereby declare that the following is a iull, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompartying drawing, forming part of this speciiication, in which-v Figure I is a side view of the tooth C passing through its compensating holder A, and seeuredby a. transverse or longitudinal key B B, Aagreeably to the-makers pleasure. i A

Figure 2 is an illustration of the compensating holder A, with its'transverse vhook-pointed key B securing the tooth C in the holder A. i

Figure 3 is a corresponding illustration to fig. 2, with this di'erenee, viz, that it illustrates an end view of the key B securing the tooth G in the holder A; and l l Figure 4 is a plan illustrating the holder AV as used on a round rod, D, to allow the tooth C to adapt itself to any unevenness or irregularity of surface over which it may have to pass when in use.

Teeth in the horse-relies heretofore constructed have been secured by means of set-screws, and require more material in the holders, which surplus is partially drilled out for the tooth to pass through, and for the set-screw hole above it, which, with the necessary tapping, forging, and screw-cutting, together with the requisite means for shifting the rake-teeth, when required, adds greatly to the first cost of the rake, 4and a considerable inconvenience when in use. With vmy improved arrangement, all this inconvenience is avoided, tor, by the use of any substance at'hand, whereby a slight blow may be given, the key B releasesthe `toot-h C, enabling the attendant to adjust any or all the teeth at pleasure, while, by the set-screw pin device, a suitable screw-wrench is requisite to turn these'set-screws, which, from necessity, are small, and are frequently broken or twisted oli', or

Y, their threads are stripped, causing delay when most required, sometimes nearly equivalent to the 'rakes value. But, by my arrangement, these-delays and ineonveniendes are provided against, a-s the keys cannot well be broken, neither lost, as the hook at their point prevents their comingout so long as the teeth are in place.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by -Lettcrs Patent, is

The keys B, in combination withthe tooth Gand the holder A, as lset forth for the purposes described, whether used transversely, longitudinally, or otherwise, for said purpose.
