PATENT I OFFICE.
JULIAN KENNEDY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOT-BLAST VALVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 760,873, dated. May 24, 1904.
' Application filed February 12, 1904. Serial No. 193.280. (No model.)
i To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, JULIAN .KENNEDY, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a ew and useful Hot-Blast Valve, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had. to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which the figure is a side elevation, partly broken away, showing my improved valve and easing.
My invention relates to theclass of. hot-blast valves wherein the valve-seat is gripped between sections of the valve-casing, and more especially to the means for gripping and releasing the valve seat. Heretofore these Valve-seats have been drawn together to grip the seat, and to release the seats separate jacks have been used to jack up the upperpart of the casing and release the seat, which was then drawn out and a new one inserted My invention is designed to do away with the use of separate jacks or means for forcing the gripping-rin gs apart and to provide mechanism for drawing the rings together, which may also be used for forcing them apart to release the valve-seat and take the weight of the I upper part of thecasing. y
In the drawing, 2 represents the upper portion, and 3 the lower portion, of a hot-blastva'lve casing, these sections having their adjacent ends provided with rings 4 4:, prefer-- pair of stems are engaged by a sleeve-nut 12,
having right and left hand threads engaging the stems. The shoulders 11 of the clamp abut against the inner shoulders of the grippingrings, while the hooks engage the upper and lower edges of these rings. By turning the sleeve-nuts in one direction the rings are drawn toward each other to clamp the seat, while by turning the nuts in the opposite directions the casing-sections will be forced apart by the clamp-shoulders bearing upon them, thus jacking up the upper casing-section to release the valve-seat, which may be drawn out and replaced.
Theiadvantages of my invention result from the use of the surrounding row of clamps, which are also arranged to force the grippingrings apart, thus doing away with the use of separate jacks or apparatus for separating the casing-sections.
Variations may be made in the form and arrangement of the clamping-ringsfche clamps,
the valve-seat, &c. without departing from my invention.
' I claim- '1. A hot-blast-valve casing formed in two sections with clamping-rings at their adjacent ends, a valve-seat between the rings, and clamps-arranged to draw the rings together and having thereon means for forcing the rings JULIAN KENNEDY.
