Letters Patent o. 76,061, dated March 31, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED PEEDjTROUGH lAND RACK..
TO ALL WHO-M 1'1 MAY CONCERN: l Y
Be it known thatmI, JREMIAH DEPUE, of California, Branch county, Michigan, have invented a new and improved i Combined Feed-Trough and Rack for the feeding of sheep and other stock; and I' do declare that the following is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and' to the letters of vreference marked thereon.
First, the rack may be of any desired length, :ind a. special weight and thickness of materiel not required. The improvement over other racks consists in the convenient and sure method of keeping the food (both hay and grain) dry, and the easy method of adjusting the rack for either sheep or eattle'nnd horses.
Figure No. 1 represents the rack with the roof on. The'end-pieces E v:tre made close, and the upper end sloped or gabled,`f`or the-support of the root` AA, which is further supported bythe board D, forming the upper part of the rack proper. The root' is also kept in its place by means of slats, es seen by L L, in Figure 2, and by hooksatthc ends and middle, as seen at g g g, in Fig. No, 1. v
The feed-box, for feeding grain or chopped feed, is represented 'by K. It is shclterelvfroin the reins by the projecting roet` A A, and seed and. dust from the hay-rack H are prevented from felling into it by means of the lid B, which being raised, tits closely to the board D,.ztnd is fastened by a. bnttonvatf.
Tol conrert'this into-a. rack for feeding horses or cattle, take each side of theV roof A frothV the top, und,
l turning the boards once over, place them in the supports C C, :is represented ing. 2. v 'lhese supports'-are suticientlyvlong und firm to hold. the boa-rds securely 'to the slides of the rack, thus preventing the feed-boxes from being pawed and injured by the horses :ind cattle While feeding.
What I claim as myinvention, and desire to secu-re by Letters Patent, is-
The feed-box K avndrzick H, in combination with tbe roof A, slats C, button und board D, arranged sub. stantiully as herein shown and described, fo'r the purpose set fort-h.
