JAMES A. REEVES, OE ALLIANCE, OHIO.
FEEDING APPARATUS FOR PUNCHING-NIACHINES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,308, dated May 10, 1904.
Application filed September 16, 1903. Serial No. 173,415. (No model.)
To all zoll/07u it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. REEVES, a resident of Alliance, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feeding Apparatus for Punching-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved feeding apparatus for punching-machines, the object of the invention being to provide improved mechanism of this character which will permit both sides or edges of a plate to he punched at one time parallel to each other in either a straight or curved line and to provide imlgiroved mounting` for the feeding-table which will permit of the adjustment of the track to any desired curvature to feed plates curved in any are of a circle.
With this object in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view illustrating my improvements. Eig. 2 is a side view partially in section, and Fig. 3 is a view in section on the line a.' a' of Fig. 2. Eig. f1 is a plan view with the truck removed, and Eig. 5 is a view in cross-section of the same.
1 1 represent the rails of a track on which the wheels 2 of a movable table or platform 3 are mounted to run.
Midway between the blocks 7 are blocks 9, having lugs 10, between which a ratchet-bar 11 is secured by bolts 12, and through threaded openings in the alined blocks 7 and 9 screwrods 13 are passed and are mounted in frames 14, secured upon timbers 15 or other support to hold the frames, and the latter prevent longitudinal movement of the screw-rods, compelling longitudinal movement of blocks 7 and 9 when the rods are turned to give to the rails 1 and ratchet-bar any desired curvature, but maintain them always in parallelism. Suitable hand-wheels 16 are secured on the outer ends of rods 13 to facilitate their being turned and the consequent adjustment of the track. It will thus be seen that the curvature of the track can be made in exact accordance with the curvature of the plate to be punched, and hence the feed of the table will exactly compensate for the curvature of the plate.
On the forward truck-axle of the table or platform 3 arms 17 are pivoted and carry a the plate will be simultaneously punched whether the plate be straight or curved, the track being' adjusted to the proper curvature to compensate for the curvature of the plate and insure its proper feed to the punches.
The table or platform 3 is preferably fed by means of a pinion 20, driven by any desired source of power and engaging a rackbar 21, carried by the table.
A great many slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I would have it understood that I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a feeding apparatus, the combination with a feeding table or platform, of rails, wheels supporting said table or platform and mounted on the rails, and means for bending said rails to any desired curvature.
2. In a feeding apparatus, the combination IOO with a wheeled table or platform, of rails on which the wheels of the table are mounted to run, and screw-rods Connected with said rails and adapted to bend them to any curvature.
3. In a feeding' apparatus, the combination with a movable table or platform, and wheels supporting the same, of rails on which the wheels are mounted, a ratchet-bar between said rails, ratchet mechanism carried by the table or platform to engage said ratchet-bar, and means for curving said ratchet-bar and rails in parallelism.
4. In a feeding apparatus, the combination with a movable table or platform and wheelsv supporting the same, of rails, a ratchet-bar between them, blocks supporting said rails and ratchet-bar, screw-rods passed through said blocks and adapted to adjust the rails and ratchet-bar to any curvature, and ratchet mechanism on the table or platform to engage the ratchet-bar.
5. In a feeding apparatus, the combination with a movable table or platform and wheels supporting the same, of rails, a ratchet-bar between them, blocks supporting said rails and ratchet-bar, screw-rods passed through said blocks and adapted to adjust the rails and ratchetbar to any curvature, ratchet mechanism on the table or platform to engage the ratchet-bar, a rack on said table or platform, and a driving-pinion engaging said rack to feed the table on the rails.
6. In a feeding apparatus, the combin ation with a movable table or platform and wheels supporting the same, of rails, a ratchet-bar between them, blocks supporting said rails and ratchet-bar, screw-rods passed through said blocks and adapted to adj ust the rails and blocks to any curvature, ratchet mechanism on the table or platform to engage the ratchetbar, a rack on said table or platform, a driving-pinion engaging said rack to feed the table forward, and a punch on each side of said track.
In testimonjT whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JAMES A. REEVES.
