PATENT OFFICE.
FRANZ NEIDENBACH, OF FIUME, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO KARL ZEILNER, OF FIUME, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
FLOOR OR LIKE BRUSH- SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 757,831, dated April 19, 1904. Application filed November 18, 1902. Serial No. 181,903. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANZ N EIDENBACH, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at 1 Via del Pino, Fiume, Austria- Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floor or Like Brushes, (for which I'have made application for Letters Patent in Hungary, N 0. 12,148, dated September 11, 1902, and in Great Britain, No. 21,477, dated October 2, 1902,) of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to brushes for polishing floors.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of brushes for polishing floors, and to provide a brush adapted to be operated by the foot, and to enable the brush to exert pressure on a floor during both the forward and returned movements, whereby both of such movements of the brush will operate to polish the floor.
The brush of the present invention is so arranged that the pressure exerted on the brush does not even need to be diminished during the return movement. Thus a vigorous waxing results during such return movement and the work proceeds quicker and with less trouble than hitherto.
The invention consists, essentially, in elastically or flexibly connecting a thrust-board with the back of the brush in such a manner that during the work or operation it receives a relative motion against the brush, and in consequence of the kinetic energy arising thereby the movement of the brush, as well as the waxing or polishing, is essentially facilitated.
In the accompanying drawings one form of floor-brush according to the invention is rep resented by way of example.
Figure 1 is a side view of the brush; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section; Fig. 3, the plan of the back of the brush; Fig. 4, a bottom view of the thrust-board.
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated the thrust-board 1, which is worked with the foot, rests on the rollers 2, which roll between the metal surfaces 4 and 5 of the back of the brush and the thrust-board. The rollers carry the disks 8, projecting into the slots 6 and 7 in the back of the brush and the thrustboard, the movement of these rollers being regulated by the pins 10, projecting in the slots 9. The thrust-board is connected with the back of the brush by means of leather straps 11, which limit the movement of the thrust-board in an elastic manner. It will thus be understood that the thrust-board is allowed to move relatively to and in advance of the brush at the commencement of each backward or forward movement. Therefore it is not necessary to diminish the pressure on the brush at any time, because the thrustboard attains sufiicient momentum to overcome the opposingresistance of the brush before it is retarded by its flexible connections.
The invention is applicable to all brushes required to be reciprocated in asimilar manner to floor-polishing brushes.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a brush for polishing floors and for other like purposes, athrust-board and flexible connections between the thrust-board and the back of the brush for enabling the said board to be moved in advance of and relatively to the brush at the commencement of each recip rocation substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
2. In a brush for polishing floors and for other like purposes, a thrust-board, flexible connections for attaching the same to the back of the brush but for allowing relative movement, and antifriction-rollers between said board and brush substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
3. In a brush for polishing floors and for other like purposes, a thrust-board, flexible connections for attaching the board to the brush but for allowing relative movement between the two, friction-rollers between the board and brush, slotted disks on the ends thereof and pins on the board and brush engaging in the slots in the disks substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth.
4. A device forpolishing floors and for like purposes, comprising a brush, a loose thrust board on the back thereof, and means forlimiting the relative movement between said board and brush, substantially as described.
5. A device for polishing floors and for like purposes, comprising a brush, a loose thrustboard on the back thereof, antifriction devices between the board and back, and means for limiting the relative movement between sai board and brush, substantially as described.
6. A device for polishing floors and for like purposes comprising a brush, a loose thrustboard on the back thereof and connected thereto by flexible connections, and antifriction devices between said board and back, substantiallyas described.
7. A device for polishing floors and for like purposes, comprising a brush, a loose thrustboard on the back thereof and connected thereto by straps, antifriction-rollers between the board and back, slotted disks on the ends of the rollers, and pins on the board and brush engaging in the slots in the disks, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
