ACETYLENE-GAS GENERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,713, dated February 23, 1904.
Application filed April 24, 1901.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS E. SOHLIE- DER, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Acetylene- Gas Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification. p
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in gas-generating tanks.
The object of my invention is to provide a gas-generating tank so constructed that the sediment in the generating tank may be readily removed, this being accomplished in providing the tank with a bottom set at an incline or bevel and providing a shaft revolubly held and arranged centrally of and at right angles to the plane of said bottom and pro- Viding suitable top and bottom bearings for said shaft, provided with paddles secured to the same, which work above the inclined bottom. a suitable stop-cock being provided, so that upon rotating the paddles the contents within the generating-tank will be thoroughly agitated, so that the sediment may be withdralwn through the stop-cock to empty the tan In the accompanying drawing I have shown a central sectional view of a generating-tank embodying my invention.
In carrying out the aim of my invention I provide a generating-tank A, of any suitable size, with the bottom 2 and the top or breast a, the top or breast being provided with the openings '0 and s to receive the carbid-holder and gas-exit pipe, respectively. Above the bottom 2 I provide an inclined or beveled base 3, provided with a bearing-opening w, from which extends the shaft D, provided above with the operating-handle 2, as clearly shown in the drawing. is further provided with the reinforcing-collar 5 and a suitable openingbelow the same, through which extends a suitable pipe C, which is open-ended and is provided above with the collar 6, so that this pipe or tube 0 may be readily threaded into the collar 5.
The shaft D is provided below with a paddle B, securely fixed to the same, and is held within the pipe or tube C, as shown in the drawing.
' In arranging the instrumentalities the shaft D is first inserted through the tube C. This tube is then threaded into the collar 5, when the paddle or scraper B is secured to the shaft D, which is then inserted within the lower bearing an, as shown in the figure. Now upon rotating the scraper blade or paddle B, which is secured to the shaft, the bottom is scraped to practically clean the entire surface of the base orbottom to remove the carbid sediment.
At a suitable point the carbid-holder is provided with the stop-cock 0r faucet 4, so that the contents of the tank may be emptied.

In an acetylene-gas generator, the combination with the gas-generating tank, having an inclined or bevel base and a carbid-holder, communicating therewith, of a revoluble shaft arranged centrally of and at right angles to the plane of said base, top and bottom bearings for'the shaft secured to the upper part of the tank and base respectively, and a series of scraper-blades operatively secured to the shaft, whereby upon rotating the latter, the blades are adapted to scrape or clean, practically, the entire surface of the base substantially as set forth.'
