a resident of New York, in the county of-New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vaginal Douches, of which the following is a specification. 1
My invention relates to improvements in vaginal douches or syringes, andwill be defined in its scope by the claims.
My invention consists of a vaginal douche or syringe so designed and constructed that a small quantity of liquid may be repeatedly used'without the removal of the syringe, a-

My douche or syringe is of a type which employs a compressible bulb 1 for producing the required water-pressure This is attached by a flexible connection to the outer end of V the nozzle or part which, is inserted within the vagina, as by a short rubber tube 2,,fitting over tips 7 and 6, carried, respectively, ,by the bulb and the nozzle.
The part which is inserted within the vagina contains two principal members, which are combined in such a way as to form a vaginadistender and a receiving-reservoir for the liquid. 1 The outermost of these parts consists of a central tube 3, which passes centrally through the other member and at one end is formed into the nipple 6, which receives the bulb connection, and at the other end is provided with suitable discharge-openings. I This forms a direct passage from the bulb to the discharge-orifices. The discharge end of this tube is closed except for such discharge-openings, which openings I prefer to make as slits 4, although other forms of orifice might be used.

During this first discharge the opening 15, which should bekept at the upper side, should be left uncovered. After the completion of the first discharge this opening may be closed by putting a finger over it. When the bulb is relaxed and permitted to expand, the openings same time the liquid may be finally removed in the syringe, which obviates the necessity for a vessel to catch the drip and the annoying features necessarily connected therewith. It is thus possible to use this syringe while recumbent in bed and under other circumstances where other types of syringe could not be conveniently employed.
Where a medicament is being used, the ability to successively apply it a number of times to the parts is a great advantage. In such use the strainer 01 filter prevents a reapplication to the parts of any foreign or injurious matter which is not soluble.
I provide a cap 17, which is adapted to fit closely over the outer end of the tube 3 and close the discharge-openings 4, so that while the syringe is filled it may be placed anywhere and in any position without leaking. This tube may be easily removed or put in place, and if put on immediately after use the. syringe may be put down anywhere and left any length of time or until it is convenient to empty.
It is of course evident that apump or other water-circulating device might be substituted for the bulb, although I prefer the bulb as being the simplest form of such devices.
I do notdesire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my inhaving as'a part thereof a distender extending into the vaginal and having inlet-openings, and a suction-pipe extending from the discharge-pipe to the lower part of the reservoir. 2. In a syringe,in combination, a bulb, adischarge-pipe, a reservoir having as a part thereof a distender surrounding said discharge-pipe and extending into the vaginal and having inlet-openings and a valved suction-pipe leading from said discharge-pipe to the lower part of the space-within said distender.
3. In a syringe, in combinatioma bulb, a discharge pipe or nozzle attached to said bulb, a reservoir to receive the backflow having as a part thereof a distender extending into the vaginal and having inlet-openings, a suctionpipe extending from the discharg mipe to the lower part of the reservoir, and i liner for sand suction-plpe. 4. In a syr1nge,1n combinatiom bulb, adischarge-pipe, a distender surrounding said discharge-pipe, a valved suction-pipe leading from said discharge-pipe to the lower part of the space within said distender, and a strainer for said suction-pipe.
5. In a vaginal douche or syringe, in combination, a bulb or equivalent water-circulating device, a discharge-pipe leading therefrom, a reservoir receiving the outflow,-a suction-pipe and strainer therefor connecting the bulb and said reservoir.
6. In a vaginal douche or syringe, in combination, a bulb, a discharge-pipe leading therefrom, a reservoir receiving the outflow and provided with an air-discharge opening and having as a part thereof a distender extending into the vaginal and having inletopenings, and asuction-pipe connecting said bulb and reservoir.
7. In a vaginal douche or syringe, in combination, a bulb, a discharge-pipe leading therefrom,- a reservoir receiving the outflow and provided with an air-discharge opening,
and a suction-pipe connecting said bulb and reservoir and provided with a strain'er.
8. In a vaginal douche or syringe, in combination, a bulb, a discharge -pipe leadingtherefrom, a .flange surrounding said pipe, and a conical distender having its smaller end closely surrounding said pipe and its larger end secured upon said flange and inlet-holes in its side.
9. In a vaginal douche or syringe, in combination, a bulb, a dischargepipe leading therefrom, a flange surrounding said pipe, and'a conical distender having its smaller end closely surrounding said pipe and at its larger end having an enlargement adapted to be secured to the said flange, and a packing-ring surrounding the distender in advance of said enlargement.
