Description

Patented January 26, 1904.
UNITED STATES PATENT OF ICE.
JAMES MGCORMAOK, OF CHICAGO, ILLINQIS.
BOILER-CLEANING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,682, dated January 26, 1904.
Application filed April 15, 1903. Serial No. 152,791. (No specimens.)
To all whom it Wmy concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMEs MoCoRMAoK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boiler-Cleaning Compounds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boiler cleaning compounds; and its object is to provide a composition in a form convenient for transportation and use, which will quickly and thoroughly remove all incrustation from boilers and keep the boiler clean and free from scale and corrosion.
My componnd consists of hemlock extract, sodaash, and water combined in or about the proportions of two hundred and seventy-five pounds of hemlock extract to one hundred and fifty pounds of soda-ash and one hundred and thirty pounds of water.
In the preparation of the compound I have proceeded as follows: I first put all of the water in an agitator and add one-third of the quantity of soda-ash. I then add all of the hemlock extract and the balance of the sodaash. The mixture is kept in a constant state of agitation for about one hour until thoroughly mixed. It is then ladled into molds and allowed to stand over night.
WVhen removed from the molds, the compound is hard and becomes harder with age,
but does not deteriorate. The compound is introduced into the boiler through the'manhole in quantities as required and after the boiler is washed out andit acts quickly and thoroughly to remove all incrustation. The compound is in a hard dry form, which makes it very convenient for handling and avoids the necessity of pumping it into the boilers. It works quickly and thoroughly and is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
The compound readily dissolves in the water in the boiler; but, if desired, the compound may be first dissolved in Water and then pumped into the boiler. I prefer, however, to put a lump of from twelve to fifteen pounds of the compound into the boiler, for in this way it acts quicker and the full strength is obtained at once.
lVithout limiting myself to the exact proportion of parts herein mentioned or to the method of manufacture, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A boiler-cleaning compound consisting of hemlock extract, soda-ash and water.
2. A boiler-cleaning compound consisting of hemlock extract, soda-ash and Water ina hard, dry form.
