To all whom it'mcty concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE MOVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hubble, in the county of Wythe and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to toys and may be used as an advertising medium. It has for its object to provide a toy which will be amusing and catchthe eye when displayed in a show-window orin other places with advertising matter thereon.

The invention consists of the revolving figure, actuated by clock or other suitable mechanism, having attached thereto a flexible pendant, with or withouta weight atits end, which, when the figure revolves, will strike and coil around a standard or successively around a series of standards placed at intervals around it, thus interrupting its movement from time to time. It may be arranged so that the figure at stated'intervals will trip a lever or other mechanism communicating with a bell or other article or articles adapted to produce one or more alarms, reports, or sounds,which may or may not constitute notes in the chromatic scale, which serves to attract the attention of the public.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 is a base or platform about centrally of which is mounted the figure 2, which may represent a person, animal, orother natural or artificial object. The upright standards 3 are secured to said platform at equal distances from the figure at stated intervals around it. Four of these uprights or standards are shown in the drawings, having their upper extremities preferably bent over and secured together above the figure in the form of an arch, which serves to make each one more secure. Upon one or more of these uprights may be-mounted to revolve a wheel 3 or other device, which will be rotated by the Serial No. 169,767. (No model.)

The figure may have a forward extension 4, preferably in the form of an inverted U, from the end of which is preferably suspended the weight 5 by a cord or any other suitable flexible or elastic connection 5. The weight may be dispensed with by providing a cord or chain of sufficient size or weight. The figure is actuated, preferably, by clock mechanism 11, the springs, wheels, and pendants being so regulated as to strength and size so as to maintain the action of the toy for one day or several days. Said clock mechanism is preferably secured to the under side of the platform and has a shaft or pinion 6 extending through and above said platform, upon the upper end of which said figure is mounted. As the figure revolves the pendant is thrown out by centrifugal force so that it will come in contact with each upright, and when such contact is made the velocity of the pendant, with or without a Weight, will carry it around .the upright, winding up said pendant thereon.

This arrests the motion of the figure until the pendant is unwound, when it goes to the next upright, and the same operation is repeated. It is obvious that any number of uprights may be used, the number only being limited by the fact that they must be spaced sufficiently far apart to allow the pendant to gather sufficient velocity to throw it out so that it will engage each upright. It will also be understood that advertising matter may be placed upon the figure, as shown in the drawings, on the sides and base of the platform or frame and secured to the uprights. The wheels 3 may be provided with advertising matter of an amusing character or may be so colored that when caused to revolve when one of its arms 3" is struck by the pendant 5 difierent colors or combinations of colors will be shown.

The device is provided with a bell 12 and a drum 13 or a combination of bells and drums or other devices adaptedto produce an alarm or a sound or a series of sounds or alarms during each revolution. I provide connecting-levers 7 and 8, the latter standing in such a position that it will be tripped by the projecting portions of the figure, thereby raising the hammer or knocker 9 on the lever 7, which will fall upon the bell or sounder. When the figure has passed the lever 8, it is returned to its upright position by means of the spring or weighted levers, in which position it remains until it is again tripped by the figure.

It is understood that I do not limit myself to the details ofconstruotion herein described, as they may be changed at will and the spirit of my invention remain intact and be protected. For instance, the figure may be of any size or shape, or it may be provided with projections, so that the number of sounds may during one revolution of the figure be varied at will. If desired, a gong may be suspended from the top of the frame formed by the uprights, and the trip may be arranged to pull a cord passing up one of the uprights, which is connected with the clapper of said gong.

- ,Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a device of the character described, comprising a revolving figure having a flexible pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby the motion of said figure is intermittent, and a trip adapted to give an alarm While the figure is in motion, said figure having a series of projections adapted to strike said alarm during each revolution of said figure.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a revolving figure having a flexible pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby the motion of said figure is intermittent, a trip in the path of a projection of said figure and a knocker adapted to strike an alarm.

3. In adeviceof the character described, the combination of a revolving figure having a fi'exi'ble'pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said ing said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby the motion of said figure is intermittent, said figure having one or more projections, a horizontal shaft carrying a trip and a knocker, and an'alarm.

5. Adevice of the characterdescribed, com prising a revolving figure having a flexible pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby the motion of said figure is intermittent, said figure having one or more projections, a horizontal shaft carrying a trip and a hammer, an alarm and a spring holding said trip normally in the path of the projection of said figure.

6. Adeviceof the character described, comprising a revolving figure having a flexible pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby the motion of said figure is intermittent, said figure adapted to strike a series of alarms of different sounds.

7. Adevice of the character described, comprising a revolving figure having a flexible pendant attached thereto, means for actuating said figure, an upright carrying a rotatable attachment arranged in the path of said flexible pendant when said figure is in motion, whereby motion is imparted to'said attachment and the motion of said figure is rendered intermittent.
