GERARD O. SCOTT, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO.
POULTRYMHOUSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 747,243, dated December 15, 1903.
' Application led February 9, 1903. Serial No. 142,663. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: l
Beit knownthatl, GERARD O. SCOTT, a citi-v zen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invent-ed certain new and useful Im provements in Poultry-Houses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of poultry-houses; and the objects of my in- `vention are to provide an improved poultryhouse construction .adapted for the raising of poultry in'large quantities and in an economical manner, to so construct my improved poultry-house as to provide a comparatively large number of poultry-containing compartments arranged in a compact form, to so construct the same as to permit of access being readily gained to the various compartments,
' and to produce other improvements, the details of which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which is represented a view in perspective of my improved poultry-house, showing portions of one of the end and one of the side walls broken away for the-sake of clearness in illustration.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout.
1 and 2 represent the opposing side walls of my improved building, and 3 one of the end walls thereof, said side walls being connected by a suitable form of roof 4.V One or more of the side or end walls is, as shown for the side wall 2, formed of suitable framework 5, said frames being illed with glass plates or panes 6 for the purpose of lighting the interior of the building. Within the building at a distance from the walls thereofis arranged an upright framework comprising suitable standards 7, between which are arranged horizontally and preferably extending 4 lengthwise of the buildin g parallel partitions or oors 8. The spacesbetween these floors are divided transversely at suitable intervals by partitions 9, thus subdividing each of the spaces between the floors into a plu-v rality of compartments. The ends and sides of the compartments thus formed are preferablylcovered by a wire-netting or other open-work material, such as is indicated at 10 and 11. The compartments formed as described between the partitions 9 and between said partitions and the ends of the interior housing or frame are provided on one or more sides with suitable hinge-doors 12, which are adapted to close doorways formed in the netting. The longitudinal hallways 13, which are formed between the side walls l and 2 of the building and the side walls of the interior compartment-containing structure, are provided at their ends with doorways, one of which is indicated at 14 in the drawing.
As indicated in the drawing, that portion of the floor 15 on which the compartmentcontaining structure is supported is preferably elevated above the level floors of the side halls or passages 13.
As will be understood, the various compartments contained within the internal structure of the building may be reached for the purpose of giving the fowls contained therein necessary attention or for removal or placing of fowls therein by suitably-constructed steps 0r ladders movably supported in the hallways or passages. Although the internal compartment-containing structure is disclosed in the drawing as being shorter than the external structure, so as to provide end passage connectionsbetween the side passages 13, it is obvious that said internal structure may extend to the end walls 3 of the building.
From the construction herein shown and described it will readily be seen that a comparatively large floor-space is provided for the fowls and that this door-space is so arranged as to permit of a large proportion of the interior of the building being utilized and the compartments thereof properly lighted.
Having now fully described my invention,
Patent, is-
