Description

No. 746,357. PATENTE'D DEC. 8, 1903.
' E. MUNTE.
FENDER FOR STREET VEHICLES.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.17, 1903.

Patented December 8, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
EMILIE MUNTE, OF LANGENFELDE, NEAR HAMBURG, GERMANY.
FENDER FOR STREET-VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 746,357, dated December 8, 1903.
Application filed March 17, 1903.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMILIE MUNTE, ne POMM, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Langenfelde, near Hamburg, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fenders for Street-Vehicles, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in fenders for street-vehicles, motors, and the like in which a roller of soft elastic material projects from the front of the car and'is continuously rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the car.
i In the accompanying drawings the device is shown in Figure 1 in a side view applied to a car. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same. Fig. 3 represents a ground plan, and Fig. 4 a front view, of the device for operating the elastic roller, which is not shown in the latter figure.
, The device consists of two disks 0, which have flanges running in the rails and are rotatably mounted on the ends of an axle b, which is pivoted on a vertical spindle a, downwardly projecting from the bottom of the car. The axle b is under the influence of spiral springs f, coiled around vertical rods a. In front of the disks 0 a roller (1, of soft elastic material, is arranged in such a manner that it is continuously in contact with said disks. The axle of the roller d is mounted in bearings h, fixed to the projecting ends of the axle b. The roller d projects from the front end of the car and runs between the rails.
As the axle b of the disks and the axle of the Serial No. 148.209. (No model.)
in opposite direction, so that any obstructions which should be on the rails are removed by the soft elastic roller.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I Improved fenderfor street-vehicles comprising in combination a vertical spindle projecting downward from the footboard of the car, a horizontal axle pivoted on said spindle, spiral springs pressing on the axle, flanged disks rotatably mounted at both ends of said axle, brackets projecting from the ends of said axle, a roller of elastic material rotatably supported by said brackets so that it is continuously in contact with the flanged disks, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMILIE MUNTE.
