Be it known thatLFREDERICK R. JOHNSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bottles or Flasks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to bottles, and particularly to that class of the same known as flasks, which are adapted to be inserted in the pocket of the user; and the object in View is to mechanically shape the bottle or flask in such manner that it may be readily inserted in the hip-pocket of trousers without producing a bulky projection at the lower end and conforming to the curvature of the portion of the body of the wearer of the trousers adjacent to such pocket. The bottle or flask is also adapted to be carried in other pockets with the same advantages as those just enumerated.

The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of the bottle or flask, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bottle or flask embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section thereof.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The numeral 1 designates the bottle-body, having an upper neck 2 to receive a stopper in the usual manner. The front side of the body is slightly convex, as in ordinary structures of this kind, and the rear side 5 is concave to conform to the corresponding contour of the portion of the body of the user adjacent to which the bottle or flask is carried, as in a pocket. The front side at of the bottle or flask at a considerable distance above the lower edge of the body 1 is formed with a downward and rearward curved bevel 6, which continues into a lower curved edge 7, with which the concave rear side 5 intersects. It will be seen that the curved bevel 6 gradually reduces or tapers the lower extremity of the bottle or flask body and removes the blunt or flat obstruction usually found to exist in the ordinary forms of bottles or flasks.

The advantage of the construction of bottle or flask as set forth is that it may be readily inserted in a pocket and gradually forces open the mouth of the pocket without requiring the use of two hands to arrive at this result, and, furthermore, when the improved bottle or flask is fully inserted in the pocket the lower end thereof does not form any material bulge or protuberance and is not liable to be worked out of place by striking upon projections or objects with which the user may come in contact. Moreover, the rear concave side 5 conforms to the curvature of the part of the body adjacent to the pocket in which the bottle is held, and the concavo-convex cross-section al contour of the bottle, as clearly indicated by Fig. 3, also obstructs the disengagement of the bottle or flask from a pocket.

The particular shape of the bottle or flask set forth does not materially increase its cost of manufacture, especially when considered relatively to the advantages arising from its use. Moreover, when the bottle is disposed on a rest, such as a table or shelf, it will be placed with its concave side downwardly and will be prevented from freely moving in view of the engagement of the opposite side portions of the said rear concave side with the surface on which it is disposed. Moreover, the form of the bottle or flask shown will permit a great number of the same to be closely packed within suitable inclosures for trans portation or stacked on shelves or other places previous to use or after the same have been filled.

Changes in the proportions, dimensions, and minor details of construction may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A bottle having its lower extremity at the front formed with a downward and rearward curved bevel,and the rear side concaved.

2. A bottle having a body of eoncavo-convex form in cross-section and having its lower extremity at the front formed with a downwardly and rearwardly curvedbevel to reduce the lower end thereof.
