TRAMWAY BUCKET-CLIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent no. 745,148, dated November 24, 1903.
Application filed July 14, 1903. Serial No. 165,498- (Ilo model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD A. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis,State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tramway Bucket-Olips,of which the followingisaspecification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in tramway bucket-clips, and has for its object to provide a clip adapted to be detachably fastened to the traction-rope of an aerial tramway and to the bucket carried by such traction-rope in such a manner that the clip may be removed from either the traction-rope or the bucket, or both, the clip being adapted to permit the bucket to swing outwardly and inwardly with reference to its vertical axis, and. which will also permit the bucket to swing back and forth upon a pivotal point of attachment whereat it is held to the clip.
In the drawings, Figure l is an end View of a clip embodying my invention, showing the traction-rope in section. Fig. 2 is a top view of a clip embodying my invention, showing the same in place upon the traction-rope. Fig. 3 is a View of the side of the clip farthest from the traction-rope. Fig. 4 is a top View 0 of the body of the clip. Fig. 5 is an end view of the body of the clip.
I have indicated the main body of the clip by the numeral 1, this main body being of the form shown in the various views and- 5 provided with the lugs 2 at its ends, the 1ongitudinal opening 3, and transverse openings 4, as Well as the longitudinal groove 5, which is provided with depressions 6, which enable the body 1 to be more rigidly impressed upon the traction-rope 7. The bucket, of any desired construction, and which is not shown in the drawings, is mounted upon the clip by means of the bolt 8, which passes through the cross-bar by which the bucket is carried. 5 The bolt 8 also passes through the yoke 9.
The ends of the yoke 9 are of the form indicated in Fig. 1, forming the projecting ears 10, which are adapted to control the axial movement of the yoke 9 about the bolt 11, whereby the yoke 9 is held in place upon the main body 1, the lugs 2 serving to limit such axial movement in either direction. The bolt-clips 12 are of the form shown in the drawings, their sides lying within the depressions 13 on the top and bottom of the main body 1, the said bolt-clips passing through the openings 4' and being tightened by means of the nuts 14. I prefer to make the depressions 13 slightly largerin depth and in width than the thickness and width of the bolt-clips intended to be used, as shown in Fig. 2, in order to provide for the accommodation of bolt-clips of various sizes in repairing the clip. In my device it is apparent that the bolt-clips and groove 5 have a considerable latitude of adjustment for the accommodation of traction-ropes of various diameters.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is-- 1. A main body, boltclips extending through the main body and adapted to secure the main body to a traction-rope, a yoke pivotally mounted on the main body and adapted to carry a bucket, and means for limiting the axial movement of the yoke about its point of pivotal connection to the main body, substantially as described.
2. A tramway bucket-clip, consisting of a main body grooved upon one of its sides to receive the traction-rope, bolt-clips adapted to fit over the groove of the main body and adapted to hold the main body to the tractionrope and their ends extending through openings in the main body, nuts whereby the boltclips are secured in place upon the main body, a yoke provided with ears upon each side of its extremities, a bolt mounted in the yoke adaptedto support the bucket, and a bolt passing through the ends of the yoke and the main body, the main body being provided with lugs to limit the axial movement of the yoke about the bolt connecting it to the main body, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD A. BROWN.
