PATENT OFFICE.
OPHTH'ALMVIOMETER. OR OTHER TABL'ES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.'744,613, dated November 17, 1903.
Application filed April 2, 1903. $erla1No. 150,672. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
7 Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. REIMOLD,
a citizen of the United States, residing in the as will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof pointed out in the claims.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a table embodying my invention Fig. 2-represents a vertical section thereof on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 represents a view of one of the inner sides of the standard removed from Fig. 2. Fig. 4 represents a horizontal section on line a: m, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the top of a table, and Bdesignates a follower which depends centrally therefrom and carries the same.
U designates the standard of the table, the same being tubular and freely receiving said follower B. In the upper portion of said standard are the chambers D, which receive the boxes E of the spring-rollers F, said boxes being secured to the standard and said rollers having connected with them the straps G,
which extend downwardly therefrom and are also connected with the lower end of the follower B, it being noticed that the inner sides of the standard 0 are formed with verticallyarranged grooves H to receive and guide said straps G. 'f l J designates vertically extending grooves which are formed in the inner sides of the standard 0 and-continue downward from the grooves H and being deeper seated than the latter to receive and guide the pins, screws,
or pegs K which are employed to connect the stra'ps G with said follower. The inner sides of the boxes or castings E have openings therein, the same being in communication cally adjusted. .It will now be seen that when said screw L is loosened the top A may be 10W- ered to the required extent, the follower-B, as is evident, also lowering and carrying with it the straps G, which unwind from the rollers F, the springs thus serving to balance the top, said straps passing through openings in the inner sides of the standard and chambers and traveling inthe grooves H. Both sets of said openings register and are in communication and are concealed from without at all points by the chambers D and the follower B, as are also other parts, as above stated, (see Fig. 2,) whereby the hands of the operator are not liable to come in contact with and be pinched v by the straps H or. the spring-rollers at any point. The screw L is thentightened, whereby the follower B is controlled, and the top A retains the position in whioh it is set. It is evident that when said screwis loosened the top may be raised, the straps rising with the follower and having their slack taken u p and wound upon the rollers F.
It will be seen from the above tical adjustment of the top may be accomplished in an easy and convenient manner.
The pins K are adapted to: abut against the upper Walls of the grooves J, and thus limit the ascent of the follower, and prevent improper removal of the same from the standard.
The sides of the follower are formed with tongues M, which latter enterv grooves N on the inner sides of the standard 0, by which provision said follower moves true and steady within said standard.
Having thus described rnyinvention, what I claim as new, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a table, a tubular standard, a tabletop, a vertically-adjustable. follower dependthat the ver- I too ing from said top and freely entering said standard, a chamber on the upper end of said standard, a box in said chamber, a springroller mounted within said box and a strap connected with said roller and said follower, said box and standard having registering openings on their inner sides for the passage of said strap and said box, roller, strap and openings being concealed by said chamber and follower.
2. In a table, a tubular standard, a vertically-movable table-top, a follower carrying said top and movable in said standard, a strap connected at one end with said follower, a spring-roller with which the other end of said strap is connected, a box secured to said standard and having said roller mounted thereon, a chamber secured to said standard and inclosing said box, said chamber and box having on their inner sides registering openings which are covered by said follower, a shoulder on the interior of said standard anda projection on said follower, said projection being adapted to abut said shoulder in the elevated position of the table-top.
3. In a table, a vertically-adjustable top, a follower depending therefrom, a standard receiving said follower, a spring-roller mounted on said standard, a strap connected with said roller and said follower, the inner side of said standard having a vertical groove therein for the passage of the adjacent portion of said strap therethrongh, and an additional groove continuing downward from the firstnamed groove, said standard having a pin adapted to connect said strap with said follower and projecting from the latter into said additional groove and playing therein.
4. A table consisting of a vertically-adjustable top, a follower depending therefrom and carrying the same, a tubular standard freely receiving said follower,a spring-roller mounted on said standard, a strap connected with said roller and follower, and a pin projecting from said follower and forming the means of connection of said strap with said follower, the inner side of said standard having a twopart groove therein, one part having said strap movable therein and the other part having said pin therein, the upper end of the last-named part forming a stop for said pin.
