CABLE-HOLDER FOR MANHOLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 743,805, dated November 10, 1903.

Be it known that I, HUGH C. BAKER, Jr., a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county of New York and 1 State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gable-Holders for Manholes,of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. 7
The object of this invention is to provide an improved cable holder or holders for use in manholes, whereby electrical conductors or cables may be conveniently and securely attached and supported in said manholes; and with this and other objects in View the invention consists in a device or devices of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a sectional side view of an ordinary manhole provided'with my improvement, and Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1 and showing a detail of the construction.
In the drawings forming part of this speci fication I have shown at a an ordinary manhole having the usual top opening a and in the practice of my invention I secure in one or more of the side walls a of the manhole a verticallyarranged bracket or support 12, which is preferably provided with end prongs 21 which are driven or built in the wall; but the bracket or the supporth maybe secured on the wall of the manhole in any desired manner.
Mounted on the bracket or support I) is a clamp or holder 0, consisting of two segmental members 0 each of which is provided with a shank 0 connected by a pin, bolt, or screw 0 in the manner of a pair of shears and in the adjacent surfaces of the shanks c in a vertical opening 0 formed partly in one shank and partly in the other, through which the bracket or support 6 passes.

bers c and the bolt, screw, or pin 0 is provided-at one end with a nut dand at the other with a head 0?, and the clamp or holder 0 is vertically adjustable on the bracket or support I) and may be held at any desired point of adjustment by means of thepin, screw, or bolt c and the nut d. In order to adjust the clamp on the support, the nut d is loosened, and when the desired point of adjustment is reached the nut d is tightened.
In practice the electrical cables or conductors are passed through the clamp or holder 0, as indicated at e, and by means of this ar rangement the cables or conductors may be conveniently arranged and supported at the side or sides of the manhole, and any desired number of clamps 0 may be employed. A plurality of supports 6 may also be employed.
As thus constructed it will be seen that the pin, screw, or bolt 0 not only holds the separate parts of the clamp together, but by hold- I ing theseparate parts of the clamp together also holds the cable or conductor in the clamp, and the said cable or conductor may be passed through the clamp after the latter has been connected with the support, or the separate parts of the clamp may be put together on the cable and then connected with the support, if desired.
Havingfnlly described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv A holder for electric cables comprising a vertically-arranged support and a clamp adjustable thereon, the clamp consisting of two segmental jaws each of which is provided with a shank, said shanks being each provided with a vertical groove in their adjacent faces which when the shanks are secured together form a hole through which the support passes, and a pin or bolt connecting said shanks between the jaws and said grooves and provided at one end with a nut, substan tially as shown and described.
