JOSEPH T. OYR, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO OROMPTON (it KNOWLES LOOM WORKS, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS, A COR- PORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS.
LOOM PATTERN-CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 741,230, dated October 13, 1903.
Application filed April 18, 1903.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH T. CYR, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of Worcester and State of 5 Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom Pattern- Chains, of which the following is aspecification.
My invention relates to 100111 pattern-chains to or indicating surfaces, and more particularly to an improved metal pattern or indicating surface to be combined with and form a part ofthe ordinary metal pattern-chain or indicating-surface made up of bars, tubes, and
I5 connecting-links. In weaving certain classes of fabrics frequent changes of the pattern are required, and it is essential that the pattern should be readily changed without unnecessary waste of pattern-bars or other indicating 2o DIGtllS'Of the pattern-chain.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved metal pattern or indicating surface having one or more pattern-pins or inclicating surfaces thereon and made integral 2 5 therewith and adapted to be readily combined with and form a part of the ordinary metal pattern chain, made up of bars, carrying tubes and rolls and connected at their ends by links.
My invention consists in certain novel fea tures of construction of my improvements in pattern-surfa.ces, as will be hereinafter fully described.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a 3 5 perspective view of a star-wheel and patternchain barrel or cylinder connected therewith and a portion of an endless chain having combined therewith pattern-surfaces of my improved construction. Fig. 2 is on an en- 0 larged scale an end'view of the parts shown in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of arrow at, same figure; and Fig. 3 shows on a larger scale a side view of a pattern-surface detached embodying my improvements.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 is a sleeve to be mounted on a shaft (not shown) and having secured thereto or made integral therewith a star-wheel 2. The pattern-chain barrel or cylinder 3 is connected with the star- Serial no. 152,472. (No model.)
wheel 2 and has supported thereon an endless pattern-chain made up of bars 4, having thereon in this instance sleeves or collars 5, adapted to extend into the grooves 3 in the pattern-chain barrel 3, and links 6, which 0011- nect the ends of the bars 4. 5
All of the above parts may be of the ordin'ary construction and operated in the usual way.
I will now describe my improved pattern or indicating surface. 6
My pattern or indicating surface (shown detached in Fig. 3) comprises a metal plate or bar 7, having its ends made with semicircular portions 7 thereon, adapted to receive the bars 4 of the pattern-chain. Extending up from the plate or bar 7 and preferably made integral therewith is one or more pins 7", which form the pattern-surface or indicator to engage and operate the ordinary feelerfingers or indicator-levers. (Not shown.)
In making up the pattern-chain my improved pattern-surfaces, with one or more pattern-pins or indicators thereon, are selected and combined with the other parts of the pattern-chain of ordinary construction by inserting between pairs of the bars 4 of the chain the plate or bar 7 and causing the semicircular ends 7 thereon to engage the bars 4 of the chain and to be held in place thereon by the collars or sleeves 5 on the bars, as shown in Fig. l.
r The advantages of my improvements in pattern or indicator surfaces will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art.
The pattern-surfaces are of simple construction and inexpensive to make and may be made with one or more pattern-pins thereon.
It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied, if desired, and the same may be used on any well-known style of pattern-chain.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As an improved article of manufacture, a metallic pattern or indicator surface for endless pattern-chains, comprising a plate or bar having semicylindrical ends, and a plurality of engaging pins Or pattern-surfaces pins or patternsurfaces thereon, substanthereon, substantiallyasshown and described. tially as shown and described.
2. In a pattern-chain for looms the combination with parallel bars carrying tubes or JOST 5 sleeves, and connecting-links, of pattern-sur- Witnesses:
faces, comprising a plate or bar having semi- J. O. DEWEY,
cylindrical ends, and one or more engaging M. HAAS.
